997 intro...made the switch to the "Dark Side"
hello, just wanted to say hello and introduce myself/car....already have read thru numerous threads on mods/DIYs and really appreciate all the info/knowledge available....I'm hoping to share the same passion and experience with the forum..
I made the down payment last week and finally was able to pick her up this weekend....the price was discounted because she requires some paintwork https://cimg8.ibsrv.net/gimg/rennlis...8c2de08b77.jpg ...but I was not looking for a concourse car....I just wanted a daily driver as my commute is near 30 miles...maintenance/service history and of course the seller was key....the car is an early build 997 Launch Edition, came with a ton of options and most importantly, the IMS was upgraded.... I've owned a 964 C4, 993 Targa and 993 C2s....and now have defected to the water-cooled world! |
I love the 05 launch editions. Absolutely loaded with options. Just make sure the ceramic brakes check out ok. It would be a shame to have to service them or replace them with steel parts. Let's see some photos of your past air cooled rides!

Very Nice! Love the Yellow Caliper Ceramic Brakes as well. Looks like it has a nice set of after market wheels. Congrats ! |
Welcome! Mine is a DD and it puts a smile on my face everyday.

Congrats and welcome!
Looks like you've had a great history with Porsche cars already. Be sure to post a few pics in the black Carrera thread: https://rennlist.com/forums/997-foru...ra-thread.html |
Awesome! Welcome to the "DARK-WATERCOOLED-SIDE" ! Many of us have air-cooled envy, but we also know that the 997 is an awesome ride too! Sounds like you found a great optioned car. From the looks of that back ground I am guessing it's at Andrew's garage and will be well taken care of
Once you get some seat time would love to hear your comparison thoughts and why you made the jump. Take it through the canyons regularly it's an e-ticket ride every time! |
Congrats from a fellow SoCal member who is currently looking. |
Dang you have had some sweet rides. Love your car!!!! |
Welcome to the 997 water pumper. I difected from the air cooled (993 C4S then 964 C2) just over a year ago after 16 years without coolant, so enjoy the new and different platform. -Skip |
Welcome, oh, and by the way, this is the bright side, not the dark side - the others just don't know it yet.
As those here know, I'm a bug fan of the launch edition cars, PCCBs and sport seats. Looks like you scored Champion wheels in the deal too. Nice and enjoy. |
Nice! As Petza914 says, you have seen the light!

Congrats and welcome! I've owned a number of "proper" 911s, but find the 997 to be the right mix of 911 and usability now that I have passengers. :)
