Carrera 4 visual confirmation

Sorry for confusion, text disappeared when I added picture...

This is a 911 (2006 997) that I will be seeing. Owner says that it is a Carrera 4. My searches found that all Carrera 4 and 4S are wide bodied. This particular 2006, doesn't seem to be a wide body. Knowing that some people like to slap badges on their cars to make people believe that their car is a higher more expensive model.

So, my questions are:

1- Is there a way to confirm that a 997 really is a Carrera 4 ??
2- By looking at this picture, does this look like a wide body to you ???

Thanks,

Steph1

Just get the VIN.

If you can't distinguish the extra 44mm in the rear, look to see if there is a front differential - open the trunk or look underneath. Ask for a photo of the trunk interior.

Agree. Trunk is smaller in a 4.

Looks widebodied though.

Right, I'll pay attention to the size of the trunk. Maybe the angle of the picture robs the width of the car. But owner is down south and this is the only picture I have of the back end.

Does appear to be widebody, as there is that extra ridge of bumper on the outer edges of the taillights. Another way to tell would be from a side profile view, as Carrera 4 and 4S have a black detachable lower side trim piece that 2WD models don't have.

The other tell-tale sign is the driveshaft to the front axle! ;)

C4 is notorious for that suv like stance. Huge gap between wheel and fender. You cannot miss... (iam not 100% sure since not owned one but recall seeing somewhere).

I think that's all the base (non-S) models... took me awhile to clean up the gap on my base Carrera.

do all the 4 have reflectors or just 4S. Im thinking the old 996 4 didnt have a reflector, dont know about 997
aside from being able to tell the exaggerated rear quarters that are very distinct, and the widebody lower rockers have rocker trim where as narrow bodies dont have that trim

I think you are referring to the center reflector on the tail. If so, that was 2009 up as my '08 doesnt have it.

Looks like a WB to me. My emblem was missing so I added it back. The 4S is way too close to Carrera so I have to re do it.

Steph, if the camera angle was a little lower you would see the unmistakable big’ol A$$ of the Carrera 4 on this car. The under pan covers the front diff and drive shaft so you won’t see them by looking under the car. If you turn the steering wheel to full lock and peek in the gap at the front wheel arch, you will just see the half shaft that runs from the diff to the front wheel hub on a Carrera 4.
