Default Need input to chose which 997 to buy out of three.

Guys, I've pretty much summed it up to 3 997`s

All 3 are Convertible tops.

1. 2006 Carrera 2 70000 Kilometers (44000 Miles) Dark grey with dark grey top, awesome same color rims, grey interior. manual 6 speed, sport chrono led lighting etc.... IMS never addressed. After negotiating a little $45000 Can

2. 2006 Carrera 4 70000 Kilometers (44000 Miles) Black on black on black, I don't like the silver wheels on it, Tiptronic auto transmission sport chrono etc... IMS never changed. After negotiating a little $47000 Can

3. 2008 Carrera 2 105000 Kilometers (65000 Miles) Red with tan interior also with wheels I don't like. manual 6 speed, NO sport chrono, (apparently the radio flickers from time to time), IMS never changed. After negotiating a little $40000 Can

So all 3 will have an extensive PPI and all 3 have a clean Carfax.

Personnally, I prefer the number 1 for looks , number 2 for the auto transmission and the fact that it has all wheel drive. Number 3 has a nice color combination and is a 2008 but with higher mileage.

Anyone care to share their thoughts ???

Thanks,

Steph

By your own description it looks like number 2 is the winner. Wheels can be changed.

You are absolutely right about the wheels, and with this particular one, I would keep the ugly stockers and most likely install winter tires on them in case I ever need to drive it in the winter. But although it is the color my wife prefers, I hate Black for the maintenance it represents. But with sexy black wheels it can almost be as spectacular as the number 1.

Choice is entirely personal, but I would definitely go for option 1:

- Black is too hard to keep clean and doesn't do justice to the lines of the car;
- Manual beats tiptronic any day of the week (unless if you're stuck in traffic jams a lot);
- You save 2k in pocket money and don't need to address the wheels

Forgot one:
4WD drives adds unnecessary weight (except if you drive around in the snow).

By the way, these cars are ridiculously cheap in the USA/Canada
My 2007 Carrera 2 cab 6 spd (purchased in Germany in October '17, with 35k miles/57k km) cost 45k EUR.
In Belgium the prices were between 3-5k EUR higher still.

I picked #1 for the color, manual and sport Chrono. Lower price is a bonus

Welcome! Couple quick points of reference:

1. The last picture of the frontend bumper on the #1 grey car doesn't look to be the car. Its got a 997.2 or Boxster nose.

2. Just be aware that a Cab+Tip are the least desirable 997.1s from a resale value. The prices quoted (US $33k) are generally in line considering this. A cab will trade at a 10% discount to a coupe and a Tip will trade at a >10% discount to a 6sp.

3. You mentioned IMS but those don't need to be changed on the 2006-2008 cars you've listed. It was updated in 2006 with a larger bearing that cant be replaced. The failure rate on 2006+ cars is so low its not something you need to worry about.

4. However, since these are cold weather cars I would make sure you get the bores scoped during PPI, cut the filter open if you can, and inquire about oil usage (as much as the seller knows).

Good luck.

More questions if you don't mind....

1- What bumper is it that is on the grey one ??? It's a different one than the others.
2- I just got messaged 10 minutes ago from the seller with the 2008 red Carrera 2, and his price is down to $39000 Can. Does that change anything in your recommendations ???

Do you want an auto or manual? Same with all wheel drive. Answer that and you have your choice.

Well, I was preferring auto for the wife, I don't mind a stick. As for all wheel drive, it would be nice to have up here in Canada in case I need to use it in the winter. But I really dislike to maintain a Black car. Had a Black Toyota MR2 in the 80`s and swore it would be the last one.

Lets say that if the Carrera 4 with tiptronic was the grey one, we wouldn't be having this discussion.

Cheers,

Steph1

Hey, good catch Bruce, the front bumper does differ from the side pic to the front one. I'll ask the seller about that. Thanks!
