Oil scraper ring position?
Hello.
I'm trying to improve my 2005 997, 3.8S. Taken the engine apart recently.
New cast iron cilinder bushes will placed.
Question, I do not understand the sentence 4.3 about the position of the oil scraper ring.
Can anybody explain?
Thanks, Leo

Three Wheelin'
Because the oil scrapper ring is really 3 pieces you want to offset them. Meaning you do not want the gap of all 3 lining up when placed on the piston. I am not familiar with Porsche pistons and if there is a pin on the oil scrapper like on the top two rings. Make sure if there is that the gap is at that location. When rebuilding engines we always put the scrapper gaps 120 degrees out from each other. Remember to never line up the second compression ring gap with the top oil scrapper gap. Have fun rebuilding your engine.

Revision of my 997 MKI engine
Hello Bruce!
The idea of me was to make a "Klapfen auspuff" with Original dampers and do the suspension this winter.
But 5 of 10 bolts in the cilinder heads broke. And the engine was swetting oil.
The milleage is 135,000 kms so I dissided to go all the way...…
There is some scoring in cilinders 4-6 but the pistons are good.
The broken bolts are removed by me, came out in one piece after heating and welding a M8 bolt on the broken pieces.
Now all parts are water blasted and then new cast iron bushes will be placed.
Then I will turn 36 new valve guides. The valve seats will be grinded.
A new IMS bearing (C3 or C4) will be placed with oil feed through the IMS tube.
