Sloshing sound when braking
 

Hey,

Since a couple of months I hear a sloshing sound when I'm braking heavily. It sounds like there is water floating from under my driver seat/dashboard to the front of my 997.1. I feel like it has something to do with the AC (however the AC does work fine). I went out to see if it where one of the three drains next to the battery in the frunk. But when I'm pouring water in the drains I can see it coming from under the car (wheel arches and somewhere in the middle).

When you run the AC, is the condensation draining under the car? Is there any water under the passenger seat or floor mat??

How long should the AC be turned on to see condensation dripping underneath the car? I never saw any condensation but also never run the engine on idle. I never found any water under the passenger seat or floor mat. I guess you think it might the AC drain, right?

Cabrio or coupe?

Cabrios need cleaning of the rear drain holes regularly. Usually water end up in the rear passenger floor and eventually under the driver seat floor.

Did you replace windscreen recently? Not 100% tight maybe?

Coupe. Did not replace the windscreen.

Are you sure it's not a 993? :) They made this sloshing sound as oil moved about near the passenger side oil lines.

I'm sure. He's from 2005. Current weather is around 10 degrees celsius (50 fahrenheit), during the summer up to 30 degrees celsius. I just found the AC drain but I'm not able to get my head close to the tube to blow some air through the drain.

Are you sure that's not the gas tank? I can hear mine slosh around when I pull into the driveway and turn the car off.

I poured some water in the AC drain (red circle) on the passenger side but it seems like that drain isn't clogged since I saw the water dripping out the center of the car (somewhere under the gearshifter).

is the bottom (carpeted area) of your door wet? pull up the bottom portion of the rear seat, it's probably wet there as well. internal door seals tend to deteriorate, allowing water into the car instead of through the drain holes in the bottom of the door. If you hear sloshing, it's REALLY wet, and the foam under the carpet will retain an enormous amount to water. the rear control module is under the driver's seat (at least in a North American market car), so finding a fix soon is in your best interest.

+1 on fuel "sloshing" around in the tank.

Bottom part of the door and rear seat are both dry. Could not find any wet spots inside the car. Still sounds like there is a lot of water under the driver seat moving from the back to the front while braking. I'll try to make a video tomorrow.

I'll also fill her up to make sure its not the fuel tank.

How many miles? It sounds like it's HVAC. Did you check the cabin filter and the other drain lines in the frunk?

65k miles. What other drain lines do we have in the frunk? First time for me opening and trying to fix my own car.

The sound definitely sounds like liquid sloshing from the back to the front.

I know exactly what sound you're referring to. It sounds like a peaceful water stream sound. haha

My Tacoma has that same sound and others have reported it too along with the FJ owners. It's the evap can when condensation builds up.
