997.2 3.8 Engine Failure

It's good to hear the injector threw a code. I'm sure I'm not the only one here wondering if my injectors have reached end of life with no warning.
I've heard that the early injectors had a nylon tip and later ones were changed (to stainless?). Just FWIW.

I should have caught the injector issue before reaching the point where the misfires and CEL developed. Car was producing a fair amount of blue smoke upon startup, the PDK wasn't shifting as smoothly as one would expect, and UOA showed elevated fuel dilution. All issues disappeared after the injectors were replaced.

The new injectors went in at 22k miles and I chose to replace all 6 vs just the one that failed. I guess even new ones can have defects. In hindsight I should have sent all 6 away for testing to see their status and possibly sell the good ones since they are very expensive.

Maybe for the best you didn't. Bench testing injectors can lead to passing results in some circumstances when there can still be specific issues with them. It is safest to toss them even if you feel like you left money on the table. I 100% am in agreement with you replacing all 6 instead of just the one that failed. You don't play games with leaking injectors or ones that don't have a perfect spray pattern. Even with Nikasil I would replace suspect injectors immediately and not lose sleep over it for a millisecond.

Somebody with a lot more experience will need to answer what is happening. As for a rebuild you are looking at 18k as a low and 28k as a high for a rebuild. If you pull the pan you will be able to see if the bottom part of the cylinders are scored. A camera snake will make it a whole lot easier to both see and record.

Sorry I think you misunderstood or are confused. I couldn't help but to make a comment reviving this thread which has already been resolved with a rebuild and many people with experience chimed in here years ago when the situation was "live". The current owner was just providing an update on the car, which we all appreciated, since it has been several years.

What happened to the Porsche Boxster S ? It looked like you went to Flat 6 in one above in post #909, I was assuming that's what you had moved into.
By way of clarification when I said this car is "sick" I meant ridiculously awesome.
The Flat 6 operation looks exactly like I expected -- very clean and organized. I would love to know what Jake sealed his polished concrete with -- looks like a penetrating sealer; I am about to do the same in my garage.
