You get major mechanic wrenching points for attempting to find the problem yourself. Thanks for sharing with us the details.
We are all hoping for the absolute best and least expensive outcome for you. Keep us posted!

Thank you all for taking the time to post. I will not leave you guys hanging, dont worry!! Ive been busy with other things right now, but i took my time to clean out the pan and filter housing. Parts are coming in today so i cleared my schedule to install them tonight. If everything goes according to plan, ill try cranking it tonight.

Oh and Fedex lost my shipment to blackstone labs so UOA is not present. However i did save oil in another container so sending it out asap.

What is the function of what I circled? Is it possible that the plastic bits are just extra extrusions from these parts and the metal is just a piece of casting?

Thats what it seems like. I bet your issues will be solved once you change the tensioner.

UPDATE:

Just replaced the tensioner, but unfortunately it did not get rid of the sound.

The next step is to take it to the shop. LN engineering is in my area and they recommended to do a complete rebuild through RND without wasting any money on trying to fix a problem. I know nwGTS has recommended G Design in Chicago and i have talked to him, sounded like a knowledegable guy. Has anyone else used them or have any other recommendations for Chicagoland area indys?

Pics of the tool i had to fab up to install the tensioner. It worked lol.

Ugh! Sorry to hear that. Please keep us posted, especially with the postmortem. Interestingly I've read Charles N. Says most of the failures he's seen have been in the Midwest and thought it may have to do with the ethanol in the fuel if I recall correctly.

I guess that all depends on what the mode of failure is though. As a buyer actively looking for a 997.2 in the Chicago area I've been following your plight with a keen intetest and hoping for the best for you. Let's hope the small amount of fines in your oil is indicating something less than catastrophic .

That’s heart breaking. Still hoping you don’t need to do a full rebuild. And curious as to what happened. Everything I’ve read about the 9A1 motors make them seem almost bullet proof.

So LN recommends a rebuild based on your description and without actually touching the car? They seem awfully eager to spend your money.

And correct me me if I’m wrong, but you’re researching rebuild shops and you haven’t taken the car to an actual mechanic yet?

i have serious doubts about this diagnostic methodology.

I never said im looking for rebuild shop, i said im looking for good indy to determine and fix the problem. If i wanted to do complete rebuild i would just go with LN right away and call it a day.

His oil filter was full of ferrous metal. How else do you diagnose that etiology? And even if you diagnosed another way teardown is the only way to fix it.

Theyre rubber grommets/gaskets and it just two more mounting points for the oil pan.

Thank you. You beat me to it. My experience with the 9A1 engine is that they do not generate FOD. If there is FOD, there is a problem that requires teardown for diagnosis and repair.
