Best Rotors
I will be replacing the rotors and pads (Hawk Ceramics) on my daily driver which will see occasional track use this year for the first time. I own a base 997.2. Girodisc are the best, but that is outside my budget. I keep hearing to get slotted rotors rather than drilled ones. Is that true? I also hear do not go cheap as you get what you pay for. These are the brands I have heard are good: ATE, Zimmerman, Sebro, Stop Tech, DBA, Centric, Bosche and of course stock ones. Did I miss any? Any I should stay away from? Thanks in advance.

what size are your current rotors? On the 997.2 S its quite easy to upgrade to the 350mm 997 turbo rotors. You just need a small spacer for the calipers. Its said to show marked difference in braking and faster cooling.

Not sure on the exact rotor size. My car is a base 997.2 and I have read, although not verified, that the rotors are smaller. I know the calipers are different from the “S” model. At this point I am not interested in upgrading the brakes besides pads and rotors. I will already be running RBF 600 fluid. |
When you are ready to buy check out fcpeuro. They guarantee the rotors and pads for life!!

I like dba slotted - 2 piece in front and 1 piece in the rear. Run these on my wife's car with the Hawk Ceramic pads. I have the Girodiscs from a 993TT on my 928. Both are good.
Drilled rotors crack between the holes when they get hot, so yes, slotted are better. Still provide an out-gassing path, keep the pad surface fresher, and don't have the cracking issue. For dba rotors contact Ken at KNS Brakes (www.knsbrakes.com). |
Are Zimmerman rotors equivalent to Porsche OEM rotors?

Here is your "progression" list from street use towards track. Zimmerman/Sebro/Ate for drilled (street); Sebro for slotted (track); Larger 350mm slotted from Turbo w/brackets for track; DBA/Girodiscs 2ps slotted for serious track; StopTech kits for...

For the money I run Sebro Slotted. I see mostly street and fun canyon runs with about 6 DE's a year. They are cheap and seem to hold up pretty well.
