When I get the clutch replaced is there anything else I should take care of at the same time? Ie is there some preventative maintenance I should do at the same time that’s easier with the tranny out?

Good luck! Lots of excellent resources on this forum to help guide you. Please post photos as you go along. Are you doing it on a lift or on jack stands?

Default 997.1 Clutch Failure Symptoms

Hello All:
Well, sadly, my 2006 997S original clutch is finally giving up the ghost at 65K miles… the clutch pedal suddenly went ‘soft’ and started vibrating while returning from my morning Starbucks coffee run. Engagement and gear changing seemed okay, but clearly the clutch is going/gone. I’m told that the clutch pedal vibration is likely due to a broken off chunk of friction material causing out-of-balance while disengaged. The soft pedal might be a broken pressure plate spring. This occurred the week before Christmas (2022) and I’m having some difficulty finding any shops in my area that can replace the clutch any time soon — at any price (late January or February earliest). Anyway, my plan is to replace the dual mass flywheel even if it’s in decent shape — I really don’t want to worry about the DMFW ever again. When the flywheel is out, the RMS and the IMS flange gasket can be replaced (there have been traces of oil under the bell housing since I acquired the car in 2016). “While I’m in there” I’ll replace the slave cylinder and actuator fork, as these are relatively inexpensive parts. This is also the perfect time to replace the transmission oil and bleed the clutch fluid. Obviously, I’m not happy about the pending expense ($3K-$4K) but I am looking forward to a fresh clutch and freedom from worry for years to come. My other big project in 2023 is finally installing my 3-year-old center radiator kit. I’ll update this post once I have more details. **As a side note, I’ve owned many many manual transmission cars, American, Japanese, British and German, and I’ve never worn out a single clutch. EXCEPT for my 1993 911 Carrera 4 and my 2006 911S. Hmmmmm…

A sports car needing a clutch at 65K miles is pretty normal. They live a hard life whether you are easy on the clutch or not. It's not you. It's the car.
