997.1 vs 997.2 PDK
I am in the current market for a 997 CAB with PDK with Sports Chrono (S or non-S model). Is the 2011-12 model year 997.2 PDK internal upgrades worth the extra money or is the car just as nice to drive as the earlier 2009-10 PDK cars? Is there any driving differences for normal spirited driving? Not to be tracked or raced

The PDK is an outstanding transmissions. Shifts are very fast and positive with great feel. The programming is very good about knowing what gear to be in all of the time. Plus, if you drive it easy, it delivers great gas mileage. When I drive in manual mode and treat it like I would a manual transmission, I lose 4 mpg. Reports of PDK failure are greatly exagerrated. If you do some research you will find most of the failures with the first ones were due to excess heat while tracking. It's the only transmission offered now. The 7 speed manual is just a PDK with different linkage and valving. The sport/sport plus option enhances PDK performance with firmer shifts, higher shift points, launch control and other software changes. It can be added aftermarket. I don't like it, but I seem to be in the minority.
I am probably going to have to sell mine and I sure will miss it!

I believe the 997.1's had the Tiptronic and the 997.2's got the new PDK. Completely revised. I had the 997.1 with the Tiptronic, often called Tip on the forum, and it was fine. But I understand the PDK was a nice improvement. I'm sure others who have had both will chime in.

The .2 got the 9A1 motor without IMS, wider torque band, more HP, and better AOS, water pump, economy, etc. The .2 also got interior upgrades. The rear taillights are different and a matter of taste. The .1 sounds better (personal opinion).

Your going to spend around 20% more for a .2 PDK vs. .1, which I believe is worth it. I believe the exterior look better, the interior is Nice, and you have a better motor.

PDK is more advanced than TIP S. Completely different periods.
Porsche is always advanced in technology. It's beauty.
Already in the 60s Porsche has developed a Sportomatic 911 and after that TIPTRONIC ZF 4 and after that TIPTRONIC S ZF MB 5 speeds and after that, PDK version 1 version 2 ...
At the same time, one must take into account the altitude risk in PDK version 1 at 997.2.
TIPTRONIC S that exists in 997.1 is the latest version.
Both TIP S and PDK are from ZF Germany.
The TIP S in conjunction with Porsche and Mercedes ZF and PDK from Porsche ZF.
The TIPTRONIC S is very reliable, fast and strong, and anyone who did not drive it does not know what it is writing.
The main disadvantage of TIPTRONIC S - D mode.
Unlike PDK that is faster than TIP S in any situation, and especially in D mode.
[Personally I drive in TIP S only in manual mode with Chrono Sport so for me it does not matter.]
TIP S manual mode (Chrono + Sport) This is amazing and this includes moving speed shifts.
PDK and TIP S will not replace the manual transmission system nor the thrill of a manual transmission system. Anyone who says otherwise is deluding himself.
It's true that 2 pedals and steering control are fun! But it's not like a manual transmission system. Also technologically, although there is a clutch, but, it's about 2 different clutch, wet and lots of electricity.
In short, the PDK is not similar to a manual transmission system (it's all marketing).
About the technology. It's a matter of attitudes.
TIP S is not a traditional automaton.
The use of the monet converter is a component of a traditional automat.
But, TIP S is very far from a traditional automaton transmission system.
TIP S is built on a torque converter base (like Aston Martin / AMG / Corvette and more ... this is not a traditional automaton) while the PDK is based on 2 wet clutch that make shift shifts faster!
Ferrari likes to use one clutch and steering control.
Today there are technologies that combine a torque converter to a wet clutch.
There is neither good nor good. It is a matter of technological approaches and producer preference.
The bottom line. In both TIP and PDK there are:
1. Two pedals.
2. steering wheel transmission control.
3. Mode D and M mode.
At the end of the thrill day of manual no transmission system that includes 2 pedals will not replace it.
For the sound. Forgive me my friends, but 997.1 sounds a lot better than 997.2
With all the rest I agree
The engine at 997.2 sounds more reliable.
Personally, if this is relevant to you, I would look for a 997.2 manual.

The Tiptronic in any iteration is just not the right transmission for a sports car. If you're considering a 997.1 with a MT or a 997.2 with a PDK, the decision gets much more complicated.

If you're set on a car without a clutch pedal, the decision is easy - 997.2 with PDK every day and twice on Sunday. Period.

Sorry for the confusion. My question is, “What are the major difference between the 997.2 2009-10 PDK vs the 2011-12 PDK ?” (with the upgrade internals and the slight 997.2 model changes.)
Is there any “major” driving or reliability advantages going with the 11 or 12 year model ?

I have driven both PDK variants, and the 2011+ models are much smoother in shifts, and overall more refined. I have an 09 PDK and it is fantastic, but much harsher, especially cold or in low gears. I really don't think there is a bad year or anything, but I would drive both and see what you like.
