Default How many of us would buy a 997 with 110,000 miles

Just curious, how many of you would buy a 997 Porsche w/110,000 miles considering it's in decent condition

*I also set up the poll for Manual or Automatic transmission preference but you can only vote for 1 selection - So please "post" whether you prefer Manual or Automatic Tranny

*I prefer manual Trans.

Would not but a car with that many miles, and has to be manual.

I would definitely consider a 997.2 at the mileage for the right price.
A 997.1, probably not (bore scoring fears) and I have a 997.1 with 94k miles on it currently.
Now.. if only I can get rid of my 997.1....

I have a slight preference towards manual transmission.. but can live with a PDK (considering the traffic here in Seattle )

Bought one with 101k 6spd one owner with all dealer records at $33k last April. I don't mind as long as it was maintained well by PO. I use it as much as I want and park it everywhere including Costco, Walmart, Safeway so yeah, it doesn't bother me on the mileage.

Voted yes. Has to be a manual, though - not just for "engagement" and all that, but because I'm not sure on the PDK's lifespan and I'd rather have to spend $2500 on a clutch job that any shade tree mechanic can do than hope Porsche will good-will a $25k PDK replacement.

Also would need good service history and to not be too chewed up.

I would consider a 991 that is only a few years old with 110K miles. Age can be a bigger issue than mileage. I like manual transmissions with a V8, but a Porsche really needs the PDK.

Would have to be an incredible deal and a .2 to buy one with that mileage.

Manual only.

Bought my 2010 C4S PDK with 35K miles four years ago. I'm now at 118K miles and truly appreciating how good this car is. Knowing what I know, assuming good service records, I'd have no problem jumping on a car with this mileage. But I'm not about to sell mine and I'm not in the market for a second car. OTOH I am coming up on some major services at 120K!!!

This poll should have specified .1 or .2
Narrowing it down to generation makes a huge difference on the outcome.

Probably for the best. According to this thread, nobody would buy it.

I always made sure my second-hand cars had maximum 50k miles.
I definitely prefer manual transmission (in a 997.1, compared to the completely outdated tiptronic. May have been different with a .2 PDK).
Wasn't easy to find, a cab with manual transmission...

Of course I would - Depending on price. Everything can be a good deal depending on price. Also, a 100k mile Porsche is just getting broken in.

One of my 997.1 cars (wife's C2S) is at 103,000 miles and it has been the best car we've owned from a reliability and repair cost per mile. She gas put on about 60,000 of those miles.

A high mileage 997.1 with service records, tgat has been well cared for both inside & out, with the larger IMS or an IMS solution installed would be a great car for someone that is about $10k short of the normal price of entry, especially if he (or his Dad) is the DIY type that can keep service costs in check.

Even more so on a 997.2, as long as it was a Manual transmission car. I can't see spending $30k on a high mileage PDK 997 and then getting hit with a PDK replacement cost of $10-$14k, which is 30-50% of the cost of the car. I'd probably avoid a cold climate car too due to the chance of bore scoring and because working on a car where every nut and bolt is rusted in place is a huge PITA, but otherwise, yes, I'd do it.

I'm also a full on manual guy. Buy a MT whenever possible, but I don't deal with much traffic and prefer the additional involvement. Almost bought my Cayenne 957 with a Manual, but eventually the extra 150 HP (now 250 HP) of a tuned Turbo S won out over the GTS, as it's primarily our family trip car spending most of its time on the highway, plus with the Turbos, being able to not drop boost during the gear changes actually makes it faster than a manual would be (not that the Turbos were offered with one). I wouldn't buy a high mileage 987 with a Tip or a PDK - the Tip because its not the right transmission for that car and the PDK because of no serviceability and the replacement cost.

Wayne, I am optimistic too....... but everything works really well until it doesn't. Good news is that I don't see a pattern of higher mileage problems emerging with these 997.2...... all the problems appear... um... random.

I actually value reading about problems.... while it is true only Porsche knows what is really going on.... Back when I owned my 2000 Boxster S, from new, for 13 years and 197K miles...... virtually every problem I had was shared by others. I can't remember having any problem that was not a reported one and given these cars have about a thousand sub-systems..... ooo. wait .. I did have one that others did not... a broken suspension spring at around 175K miles.

Having said all that, and given that I can afford nice stuff now, I would never buy a car over say 30K miles... mostly because I keep cars a long long time and a lower mileage car gives me a longer runway.

Peace
Bruce in Philly
