Default 1st time Porsche owner: A little help needed.

Just picked up an 08 C4S coupe and plan to DD year round in Ohio. I need a winter wheel and tire set for light snow and ice. I will not be driving in heavy snow or ice and prefer more options than dedicated snow tires, so I am trying to source an all season tire combo with 18 or 19 inch wheels. 19 inch all seasons are hard to find, like Toyo Proxes 4, so will probably go 18 inch like Conti DWS06 which make 295/35/18 which I know will work ok per Tire Rack and Porsche manual, with 235/40/18 fronts.

My real preference is to try 285/35/18 because there are multiple brand options like Michelin AS3's. This will be a shorter than stock tire height and throw off the rear to front height difference. Will that matter much with handling and especially with the AWD system and other car systems including ABS? Might I get an error message or other problem? The car has full Bilstien adjustable system, I think the damptronic version which I am trying to confirm. I am going to raise the suspension about 10mm and get an allignment after getting new wheels and tires for winter if that matters.

Other question is if I get wheels that I know work for the widebody, per Tire Rack anyway, specifically 18x8 and 18x10, can I safely run the NB snow tire sizes of 235/40 fronts and 265/40/18 rears. I'd still use all-seasons instead of snow tires. The 265/40's are basically same height as stock 305/30's and front to back height difference is basically stock too, and the 265's fit the 10 inch rears.

Thanks much in advance. I've read many threads but have not gotten exact answers to my situtation.

As a fellow Ohioian I will ask where in Ohio?

In the NE snowbelt get snows

I run 18 dws06 stock size all year and have no problem. But I have a back up for winter

As far as size, dropping to a 285 actually makes the front and rear tire the same size so I don't suspect it is an issue.

Thanks for responding. I am in Dayton. The 5 or so worst snow and ice days a year I will drive the wife's SUV, so I won't be doing anything real stupid.

the 4S stock size is 19x11 with 305 or 295 rears, and since I just bought car with Michelin PSS's with 80% tread left, I thought I'd get an 18 inch set for winter. Are you on 18x10 or 18x11 rims and what 18 inch wheels are you running on those? Supposedly the rears are best to be about 0.7 inch diameter taller than front, as stock is, so I am trying to see if I can and need to keep to that to keep electronics happy.

I run the stock 18's in my avatar pic. The rears are 18x11 and 295's. Honestly in dayton for the winter I would get a set of the same rims I have and run the all season dws06 in the winter. Make sure you get the wide body fitment. They are not as good as the summers in summer, and not as good as winters in snow - but they they are better than the winters in the winter without serious snow if that makes sense?

I had dedicated snows for my 996 - Porsche approved - and they were great in the really bad stuff, but when it was just cold and the roads were clear they were not as good as all seasons.

Thanks. The dws06 look good to me for my needs. They are on backorder at tire rack unfortunately, so I was wondering if 285/35, which is shorter than 295/35 but similar diameter to fronts would work or if narrow body 265/40/18 has been used by anybody on a 4S.

Anybody else try 285/35/18 rears on a 4S and have any issues? I need to order some in the next week unless TR gets some Conti dws06 295/35/18s off backorder which does not look likely.
