remove trim piece under rear window
Happy Saturday,
I am installing a backup camera. My challenge is how to route the cable from the rear back to the front.
I understand that behind the tail-light is a grommet which allows me to route the cable into the passenger compartment
My challenge is now that in order to access it from the inside, I need to remove the trim piece (Rear Package Tray Area Carpeted Trim Panel) under the rear window
I tried with the usual tools and the usual force and it didn't come loose.
I am afraid if I pull harder I break something.
Does anyone know the right way to get the panel out?

I've removed that before when doing my rear seat belt replacement (had to remove the "C" pillars, etc.). From my recollection it is just a variety of metal spring clips over plastic tabs. Get your fingers under (or a pry tool) and pull straight forward (towards the front dash) from a corner. Once one clip disengages you will be able to figure it out.

Here, look at this picture and you can see what you need to do. If it is really tight consider loosening the C-pillar trim to give you more room to leverage it forwards. But you really shouldn't need to do that. The C-pillar trim and rear interior quarter panel piece are all pretty integrated and held on with a variety of clips. There are some DIY guides out there for rear quarter panel removal. But again, you shouldn't need to it...just pry harder and focus on prying from the bottom of the panel.

Take care not to loose the metal spring clips (they go over the plastic tabs in the picture)

Yes, I would start at the bottom left or right corner. Note there is a guiding tab mid-way on each of the sides. It don't recall it clipping - just a guide but maybe there is a rubber grommet on the back to keep it snug. Don't pry up near the rear window -- just work your way from the bottom pulling forward towards you. And, although I use plastic pry bars for a lot of trim removal, for this piece I used my hands. Get your fingers under the trim piece (if you can...maybe after a little pry first) and do it that way.

hmm.. I did something stupid earlier this year => bought a set of baby gates and used the 997 to carry them (rear seats folded down), gates resting on "parcel shelf" partially.
The gates moved during my "spirited" drive and I think they broke some of the clips that hold this particular panel.
From then on, I've never managed to keep the panel seated well. No matter how many clicks I hear, a few bumps later the panel falls off.
Is it possible to source the metal holding clips alone? I'm getting tired of the panel bouncing around on the parcel shelf everyday

If I think about the force I needed to apply to get this trim piece out I find it hard to imagine with what force your gate must have hit it.
However, when I put the piece back in I had to bent almost all metallic clips back into shape, maybe that's what you should do first

I had a annoying high pitched squeak in the rear. Recently I squeezed my Dad in the backseat and he was able to locate the source. The carpet below the rear window was the cause of the squeak. I removed the rear carpet piece (99755508101) and found that 3 of the clips (99950768705) were deformed. Right clip is old and left is new. After replacement, squeak was resolved.
