Default connecticut indie shops

all,

I have read through all the indie shop reviews I can find on the site. I have three nearby shops - trying to decide which to use for basic maintenance on my 997.2:
  • Fairfield County Motorsports - most conveniently located (in my town); I have some friends who have stated preference for Morton Competition vs these guys (based on rates; ease of doing business; etc.)
  • Morton Competition - talked to Stuart on the phone; seems like a good shop; my only concern is that Stuart is rarely in the Stamford location, and I wonder who is actually running the show in Stamford?
  • Rennwerke - I know nothing about this shop other than what I read on here through search; not as conveniently located as the other two
thanks in advance for your thoughts

Hi Kelias,

I am in Greenwich and personally use Rennwerke which has a very good reputation. The other option is in Danbury called SpeedSport. SpeedSport did a PPI on a car from Porsche Danbury that I did not end up purchasing. But the experience was a good one.

Both of the above seem to be the premier shops for our area.

I am not familiar with the other two you proposed so I cannot form an opinion.

appreciate the input, thank you.

kind of surprised you haven't crossed paths with Morton - they are right in Stamford and seem to be fairly well known P-car specialty shop.

thx again

Depends on what you need to do. Different shops with different levels of capability and price.

Do you want a shop where you can bring parts and just get charged labor?

thank you. right now just thinking about routine maintenance - no problems with the car and not yet looking at doing any performance mods.

sounds like Rennwerke is well regarded - just not real convenient (location) for me.

anyone have firsthand experience with Morton?

I have had work done at Rennwerke and Morton. Morton is difficult to get to. Basic oil changes and brake jobs can be done at Fairfield County Motorsport. There is another shop in East Norwalk 5 min walk from train station run by a guy who used to work with Spenser *** at Speedsport.

Morton is pretty convenient for me....are you comfortable with Morton for routine maintenance (LOF, plugs, coils, brake flush, etc.)?

Yeah. They actually did the 993 evaporator which involves pulling the gas tank and putting it back together. They get a B+ as a few screws went missing but it works..

Speedsport is great but, by way of offering variety- my two local shop is European Specialists. It is located in Branford, so a bit of a haul for you, but excellent quality of work and one of the few places I trust with my past and present cars. Honest work but not the cheapest.
