yea I dont think anyone should have delusions of 4x appreciation like older cars. however I find it comforting I can tell my wife 997 ownership is one of the least financially irresponsible hobbies you can pickup. i'll spend more on a week of skiing than 1yr of 997 total cost of ownership.

Clean and well maintained examples had virtually hit rock bottom so unless you racked up a ton of miles, not much lower to go.

Good news. I wonder what my 2006 C4S 6MT in GT Silver with Full Leather Cocoa interior, BOSE, PSE, Sports chrono is worth with 51,000 miles on it now.

As for all the poopoo-ers about the 997.1 and the economy, I feel like that's just an excuse to rain on the parade. It's not like we're buying them as an investment. And it's not like the OP was making claims of a 20% increase in value in a year or something so ridiculous. I'm sure there are others like me who bought the car to enjoy because we dreamed of getting one for years and had finally been in the right place at the right time for it.

I'm not going to let a few negative comments ruin my love for the Porsche. After all, this is my first but it won't be my last.

As a long time Porsche owner; 356 Pre-A, 356A, 356B, 356C, early 911's, 912's, Long Hood 911's, 911SC's, 964, 993, 996C2, 996 C4S, 997S, 997C4S, I can tell you most RL members in 997 forum and most other water cooled forums speak out of their butt and have little clue/experience about the brand.
997's are a fun car and I have enjoyed owning my 996C4S's and my current 07 C4S.
Fun cars to drive, more modern style, and as I age I enjoy actually having a heater and defroster fan that do something other than make noise.

997 market will probably remain strong because people are keeping their cars. The base models & less desired Tiptronic will never be as strong as S and C4S models.
Not many nice S or C4S examples on the market. Too many Tiptronic and ugly color combos keep the manual transmission examples strong.
I bet 997S and 997C4S manual transmission will see little depreciation relative to other models if market tumbles

Bought my base 2007 C2 with 64k miles for 33k from the dealer last month. They changed the oil, put new tires on it, changed the water pump, and replaced all the belts. I think I did ok...lol.

How did you know that about me?

I appreciate your experience and knowledge with these cars. It's amazing how this brand attracts lifelong fans, and the stories behind the passion.

I can tell you that my family (wife and kids) really enjoy this car and we have actually gone to more events and interacted with more people since I bought the 997. We've made new friends and have been very active in getting together little groups for parties and drives and car shows. It's amazing how active the PCA is in the auto world. I love it.

A lot of threads recently on this or similar subjects. I agree on 997.1 cars. Very few buyers look favorably on the tip transmission so the manuals get a premium. With the 997.2 though I'm not so sure the manuals will get a premium over the PDK. No question a manual 997.2 is hard to find but that's because Porsche built the .2 cars based on demand and apparently the PDK is the preferred transmission in the 997.2. I've seen numbers like 80% PDK vs. 20% manuals. I have no proof of it but I bet those numbers are close to reversed on the 997.1 with roughly 80% manuals and 20% tips.

So is a car built in fewer numbers and therefore harder to find always worth more no matter the reason it was built in fewer numbers? Not in this case it seems. I haven't seen manual .2 cars getting much if any premium over PDK cars but maybe it's too early to tell. On the flip side, the small number of 997.1 tip cars built are actually cheaper than the manuals all else being equal.

Uh Groove, you don't get over to the 928 forum much do you. I have never seen a better online forum for anything, much less cars, than that one. I couldn't have owned 4 of them without it. You need to grab one and experience it for yourself. with your historic stable, this is a glaring omission! I do agree that this forum (997) has a ways to go to reach the level of some of the other technical forums (both here at RL and others), but part of the reason for that is that the 997 is still a relatively new car, and not a lot of DIYers' getting them yet. As they age, and people need more technical help to keep them running, this board will get better.

linderpat - My 1st P-car back in 1983 or 84 was in fact a 1980 928 - Silver/black w/sunroof. manual transmission with ever so common syncro grind!
Bought it from Vietnam Vet. Loved the car and also mentioned it in my recent 997 post "How many Porsches have you owned" thread.
I'll have to check out the 928 Forum.

Good thing for me, I may be selling my C4S soon. Life has changed a lot for me since I bought it (adopted a kid, missus moved and has kids of her own), and just don't have time to enjoy it anymore.

'06 C4S X51, Cobalt Blue on full Sea Blue, 89,xxx miles. High MSRP car ($124k not including dealer-installed PCCB's). Also has TechArt Varioplus coilovers and TechArt steering wheel.

I've never once gone to the 928 forum without immediately afterwards going to eBay or Cargurus or Autotrader to see what's out there...
