997.2 C2S, terrible noise beginning at approx 115 mph
Took my 911 for a drive today and with low traffic put the pedal to the metal so to speak. But beginning at approx 115 mph (180kmh) a terrible, screaming, noise appeared, becoming louder the faster I drove. Difficult to determine where it came from but almost has te be something on the outside and wind related. When I turned around and drove the other direction, wind in the tail instead of coming from the front, it started at higher speed. Cannot find anything wrong, when I activate the wipers sound stays, sunroof open and closed does not make difference. Do not find anything wrong or missing underneath the car, at least not as far as I can tell. Anyone ever experienced something similar?

Check all the plastic cladding in the trunk especially the battery cover to make sure it is fastened properly. When I was researching 997s someone had traced a similar issue down to an improperly seated battery cover.

Could it have been a wheel bearing? If so, it will start making noise at lower speeds as it fails.
For wind noise..... take some painter's tape and put strips of it in suspect places.... go for a drive.... repeat.

Porsche Boxster suffers from similar whistling noise at high speeds due to front hood raising slightly once the car reaches speeds over 100mph - So it could be your hood.

Good luck tracking this down.
