Porsche 997 sport steering Wheel

Hello

I would like to change my steering wheel on a Porsche 997 s gen 2 manual from 2010.
Many of the manual have this older steering wheel from the gen 1 but if you get the pdk you will get the new sport design steering wheel. So when i look on ebay here in Europé you can find used but the always have the pdk switchers on the back. So i wonder if i buy a sport steering wheel can i take of the switchers(paddels) and will it look good? Will there be a connecting issue?

Regards

Marcus

This is an option I am considering to upgrade my manual 997.2 steering wheel. If you will notice, this looks the same as the PDK sport steering wheel without the paddle.

However, I can't seem to find the thread but someone here or at 6speedonline bought a PDK sports steering wheel and fitted it on his manual 997.2. He just took out the paddle shifters and covered the hole at the back of the steering wheel.

Thanks for the link and info JQ911! Then i will have look and see if i can find the thread and get more info on it.

I did it, I covered the holes with that 3m stuff. As you never see the back I can’t tell the difference. I used a 2017 Cayenne steering wheel in my 997.1.

It’s the wrap stuff used to wrap cars, I got some black wrap and wrapped just the plastic part of the rear of the wheel. Its not a permanent fix but will do until I find a proper piece. You would have to look pretty hard to notice it, but I know it’s there so it bugs me at times.

apologies about the night ****s but these should give you an idea. Even from the passenger seat this fix would be hard to spot. I did put some gorilla tape on the inside to help bolster the wrap.

it is Sea Blue, I dyed it from black to blue to match the interior. Was straight forward, maybe 5 coats.

Dripola: This is great! So you went from a triangular airbag wheel (997.1) to a 2017 circular airbag wheel, right? Did you source the new wheel with airbag included, and did the electrical connections still interface the same way as the original wheel? I have a 2009 997.2 manual with triangle multifunction wheel and have been lusting over a sport design wheel, but have been put off by the cost of the wheel and new airbag assembly (and I have Natural Brown interior, so not very common).

that’s right, I had the older 997.1 thin rim wheel. It is very much plug and play especially for you with a 997.2. For those with a 997.1 some people have complained the horn does work without the upgraded steering module. You can get leather covered airbags and possibly dye that. I paid $500 Aud ( approx 360 USD) for the wheel and $400 USD for the airbag. I had the dye anyway. Mine had multifunction which I removed and replaced with black inserts from suncoast. You can keep multifunction but it takes a little more work and funds. Sold the buttons on eBay for $50.

May I ask where you bought the airbag for $400 USD?

That’s a great deal on wheel and airbag. Would be curious to know from where as well.
do note that there are some fakes and also modified airbags (connectors at the back changed out) floating around on eBay and other Eastern European parts sites. Be very careful.
