Follow one if the fuel trucks around your area and see what stations the same truck stops at to make his deliveries - LOL
Anything that's not some weird station you've never heard of will be fine. I buy most of my gas from the Ingles grocery store station at the corner (same truck then goes to Shell across the street) or from Quick Trip, who guarantee their gas against fuel related issues. If on a road trip, I'll use any name brand station - Shell, Exxon, BP, Chevron, Sunoco, Marathon, etc Shell & Sunoco are the most expensive in my personal experience.
I only use 93 since most of my cars have Forced Induction.

Also, don't buy gas while the tanker truck is there after he has started refilling the tanks. The refilling process stirs up any sediment in the bottom of the storage tanks.

I just had this discussion with the owner of a two-generation shell station yesterday.... (what he said is consistent with what I read from various sources).
He said the "cheap" gas: WaWa, Royal Farms, Sunoco (who sold their retail stations to 7/11 company) is cheap because it lacks the beneficial additives. He said the only "good" gas anymore is Shell, Exxon, Mobil, and Chevron. He went on to say that water in the tanks has to do with how low a station runs its tanks. This Shell station owner said he runs his down to half for the sole reason of preventing water (or keeping it more diluted?).
What drove my discussion is that my 2009 C2s had some hesitation at low RPMs.. first time I reallly had an engine performance issue.. as chance had it, I purchased gas from a Sunoco station twice in a row in a place I "never" go..... I thought Sunoco was good gas... wrong, I didn;t know they sold their retail outlets. Further, my wife buys Sunoco gas and I found I needed to put some Techron in her tank every once in a while as she would get an odd chug/miss at idle.... so now we know... we are only going to run Shell for a few tanks in a row... going to run an experiment with both our cars.
BTW: "Gasoline", its definition/composition/etc. is defined by the feds..... it is truly a commodity... it is the additives and business practices that really determine difference.

Water in gas isn't really an issue any more now that almost all gas gas 10% to 15% ethanol content, which mixes with the water and causes it to burn through the motor - similar to pouring in dry gas in the old days when fuels didn't have Ethanol or methanol content and the gas wouldn't mix with the water.
Now if you're one of the lucky ones that has access to Premium grade non-ethanol fuel, you could still have a water issue.
The current problem with ethanol infused fuels is that they go stale sooner and separate so the advice about getting gas at a busier station with more turnover in their tanks is good advice.
I never know how long some of my cars will sit - weather, what's blocked in by other cars, etc so I now keep a bottle of Stabil 360 in each car and with every fill up add 1 oz per 10 gallons of gas I'll be putting in, and that precents the separation issue with ethanol fuel for months.

I try to use Exxon as much as possible since my grandfather worked for them for many years and it's ingrained in my head that they are the best...lol. But otherwise I tend to go for Shell and BP. Looking at that top tier list, I never venture outside of those brands so I suppose I'm good.
