Just got a mailer from the dealer we bought our 997.2S from. They'll give us 40 grand for it toward a 2018. Showed it to the wife, we laughed & chucked it into the trash. Got me thinking, how much dosh, scratch, moolah would it take to tempt you to trade in your beloved 997 for a newer model?

For me, I think it'd take north of 60 G's and would only do it for the perfect spec GT3. Maybe!

Hmmm, good question. I'd let my 08 997.1 C4 w/ 45k miles go for $42k. With a new 6-speed trans, re-sealed engine, up to date maintenance, new aero bumper, eibach springs, and fuchs reps... plus Fidelity platinum warranty, there's quite a bit of money sunk into it currently. But it looks the business and I love it. Fun hobby

I’ve thought about this question a few times, and the main problem is what car could I possibly buy that would be better than my current car for a similar amount of money? To me, the answer is none.

I’m still madly in love with my car after 3 years of ownership which is something that has never happened before. I still turn around to look at it every time I walk away from it.

With the financial investment, time investment, and rarity of my silver 997 (1 of 2 RUF R-Kompressors remaining in the USA according to the RUF registry), I'm not sure there's a number I'd sell it at, unless it was a completely ridiculous one, like $250,000 as I no longer have the time it would take to try and recreate what I already have. Even though I bought it used I have over $125k invested in it not including any labor since I do it all myself.

The wife's is more stock, so probably somewhere between $50-60k, but she doesn't want to sell it either, even though a Macan Turbo or GTS would be a better car for her at this stage in the kids' lives - might just have to add one of those and build a garage on the property we just acquired next door as we're out of garage space here even with the lift and neither of the kids (at 10 & 13) have cars yet.

Long term plan is to put up a 6 car garage over there with an upstairs (game room, dance studio, etc) and move all the tools, lift, and cars driven less frequently and the boat / trailer over there, leaving the 4 spots in the attached garage on the house for each of our DD cars. One end bay will have floor drains and a curtain for doing indoor car washes too and one of the end ones won't have the floor over it so I can raise the lift as high as 6'.

If you're building it doesn't cost that much more to make it a ten car garage. Too much space is an oxymoron!!!

Agreed to both of these. The car I'd buy to replace my GTS would be so much more expensive than what I have in the GTS that I question the sense behind making a move. Though its a fun thought exercise

That's what you think now. Wait until your build is done and you'll be kicking yourself for not going bigger.

When I built my shop, the incremental cost of going from 2 to 3 bays was negligible. Now, five years later, I wish I'd gone with 5 bays.🙄

I would think around 55K for my car. Not really sure what it would sell for. Sure has anything, I would expect a low ball from the dealer.

i guess id let my 07 997.1s with factory aero package, factory turbo wheels, full leather, sc, and other options (msrp 109000) go for around 45k. It has 3 years left on warranty but 70k miles on it. Thats probably too high of an ask but it was a pita finding a completely unmolested factory aero car.

Full leather is such a nice option. I am so happy I got it. If/when I get another P-car, full leather will be a requirement. Totally transforms the interior in my opinion.

My '05 has a new RND engine so I'm not worried about IMS or bore scoring, thus I have no rationale for a 997.2. To trade up to the cheapest running, non-wrecked 991, on top of whatever I got for my car I would probably need to cough up another $40 grand, which would eventually be eaten by depreciation. My car hasn't hit bottom yet but it definitely isn't going to depreciate $40 grand. Maybe $10-15 at most. So really, someone would have to offer me a 991 straight across, and that's not going to happen. Thankfully I'm pleased with my car as much today as when I got it 9 years ago. Instead of trading on a newer Porsche, I added an '08 Corvette a couple years ago, which is also depreciating at a trickle rate. Feels like getting a new car every few weeks when I switch off

I wouldn't sell it unless it was a meaningful money gain, or I just downright needed to get the money out of it in some terrible circumstance. It took me a year to find what I wanted, and I'd still seek out what I have now. It would be a zero sum exercise in my case.
