997.2 9A1 vs 991.1 9A1 upgrades
There are options for taking 997 parts and retrofitting them to 996s. I've looked but have never seen a comparison between the 9A1s in the 997.2 and 991.1. Granted the 996 to 997 evolution shares a lot more than the 997 to 991, but I'm curious to know what parts they may share in the engine and what are unique. I'm thinking there might be some options for retrofitting.
Clearly there are different intake paths with the revised decklids and airbox but could things like the throttle body be swapped? Or even exhaust headers? The 991.1 GT3 is a 9A1. Could you chuck that exhaust system onto a 997.2 (or 991.1 for that matter) Carrera?
Some food for thought and was curious to know if anyone had any info.

One post says the differences are cooling and electrical (more advanced ECU?).

Good thinking.
Seems 997 GT3 and 991 GT3 are sharing the same exhaust. So thats a good sign for parts swapping.

Completely different engines. Mezger vs 9A1
i hadnt seen that 6speed article above but nothing really conclusive there.
I doubt anyone is investigating this with the 997 about to be two generations old.

Big deal since they were using a non Motorsport engine in a GT car. Porsche Motorsport only started using the 9A1 block in 2017.

Looks like a lot of cooling, temp management and computing power advances. But still nothing about hardware besides the injectors. The search for more info continues:

Total 911 compared the 997 and 991 and didn't detail many engine differences. Only "The 9A1 engine from the 997 has been subject to internal changes mostly related to lightening reciprocating parts and drivetrain components and reducing friction losses."
