> So, which part failed?

I believe that this is the part that gets replaced:

I still think that a failure in the PTM section is what caused the weird knock.

That was my first thought, but the noise was definitely coming from the near the differential.

The part is on the way, should be here Wednesday, anybody have any suggestions on other stuff to do when swapping in a new front-axle final drive?
If it comes with the inside axel and flanges like the pick it should be fairly simple. If not then a PITA to pull the inside axel out of the front diff.
oops , answering a ? That wasnt asked,
Are you getting a new unit?

During the diagnostic drive i think the differential basically blew up and the case ended up cracked so it seems the whole unit (99734902054) will be replaced, problem is that Porsche Germany has to "build" a new one and it won't show up before the "28th week of the year" which by my calculations is July 9th (2.5 months after initial failure). They gave me a base Cayman 718 w/ PDK for a loaner which has been nice but I miss my 911.

The parts alone are $7500 marked down to $6000 at Jim Ellis Porsche. That CPO turned out to be worth every penny and then some.
