Default Air Compressor blows fuses

New-to-me '07 Carrera base. Tried to use the Porsche-provided air compressor yesterday to add 5-7 lb per tire after my 1st HDPE event. Compressor blew both the cigarette lighter fuse and the fuse for the power outlet in the passenger footwell. Any ideas on why that would happen? Fortunately, I had extra fuses in the proper spots of the panel, so I used them; but I didn't try the compressor again for fear I wouldn't be able to use the outlets to charge phone etc.

Mine too. Learned it on day one of the One Lap of America trying to pump them up for autox! Of course, it was the only failure we suffered the whole trip!

2009 C2S 124K miles

My Porsche-supplied pump worked flawlessly on the side of I80 in the middle of Trump-land PA. I plugged it into the center console cigarette lighter socket. Did you have other stuff plugged in and active on that circuit? Radar detector?

Read about my flat tire, traffic court adventure here ..... https://rennlist.com/forums/997-foru...p-goo-bad.html

Thanks, Bruce I had already read your thread. I had nothing else plugged in. The car was off - didn't even have the key in the ignition. But both those outlets are "live" even when the car is off. Compressor ran for 5-10 seconds, then quit when the fuse blew. Fuses were correct amperage according to the diagram in the fuse box.

I've had the same issue for years, never did figure out what it is. It blows fuses if I try other compressors too. And the compressor works fine if used on my GTI. So I typically use that car to power the compressor to blow up the tires on the 911... which is not ideal.

Had the same problem and I thought it was pretty retarded and didn't make any sense so I researched it. Ill give you a hint... Dont forget that you have 3, thats right THREE power outlets in your car. The one you didn't use is the right one.

( Its the one with an actual cigarette lighter in the small compartment in the center console)

Wish it was that simple, but that was the second outlet I tried. Same result.

Have had the same issue with several 12V compressors on various cars. Finally read in instructions for a new compressor that you should have the compressor running before you connect it to the valve stem. Helps to prevent the surge that blows fuses. Haven't had the opportunity to try that yet but it makes some sense.

Your fuse was probably already blown when you used that one. Change your fuses and use it again.
