Is this a fair price?
I am looking for a 997.2 but came across a 997.1 that only has $12K miles and is in really nice shape inside and out. It's a one owner car with a clean carfax and drove and felt great. I would still get a PPI at an independent shop if I decide to make an offer on it. They just installed 4 brand new Michelin PS4 tires, performed an alignment, flushed the brake fluid and installed a new battery. They are asking $50,999 for it. I would still prefer the 997.2 but this car has been the cleanest 997 that I have come across so far. The only thing that I am not crazy about are the wheels but that is something that could be changed down the road. What are your thoughts/suggestions?

Not a ton of big options but that is some nice low mileage. It's at the high end of a 'fair' price in my book and that's likely given the mileage and assuming no accidents and a really clean interior. You may have some wiggle room. let some other folks chime in here. Sounds like a good ride though!

I , personally, would rather have a higher mileage 997.2 for that kind of money. Completely new motor design in 2009. New stereo and nav design too among other things. Just seems expensive for an 2008 . I guess nwGTS is correct about the low mileage being the reason for the price. I paid $53 for mine in November. I have 50K miles. It's like new.

FWIW, I picked up a 997.1 C2S 6 speed with 14K miles, one owner, kept in Southern California her entire life for under 50K last month. It has a similar build as the one you've mentioned minus the 19" Sport Design Wheel 446, Sport Chrono Package Plus 672 and XSC Porsche Crest in Headrest. You have some wiggle room if they are willing to work with you.

12K miles is low, but so is 40K for a 08. For $50K a lot of options open up (year, gen, options) if you go with a higher (yet relatively low) mileage car. Or look at higher mileage .1 of any year and give yourself extra $ for aftermarket stuff.

IMO, I think somewhere plus or minus 45-47K would be a really good deal. I bought my 2007 last year, with around 40K mi, for a few K less than that w/warranty that goes to 2021. Almost showroom condition, and has adaptive sport seats (desirable option) on top of what your spec shows (no Bose or crests on seats though). It's also meteor gray, which I think is a really awesome color! Good luck, sounds great!!! Just make sure you run it through a good PPI. Cars with low miles don't always chalk up to be clean, despite what seems intuitive. At the same time, I can't really argue that buying newer in that price bracket is a bad idea. You have a lot of options when you get towards 50K....and it comes down to what you like the best! You'll love either, as long as you're smart in the buying process.

I specifically looked for a 997.2 that was maybe not as nice as the 997.1 models I found. I am pretty sure I'm not alone. Something to consider when it comes time to sell.

mfonseca -I would agree with others that say go with a 997.2.
3 years ago I was in your situation - bought a 997.1 with 12K miles. I overpaid for it ($55K) BUT I had very specific wants - dark blue Targa with tan interior and manual transmission. Across 50+ years of 911's there are probably a handful for sale at any given moment in that combination. So I pulled the trigger.
I love the car, but since then have learned a lot from others on this forum and probably would have been better off waiting for a 997.2 (ironically, one did come up for sale about a month after I bought mine)
just my 2 cents

If you have the budget for 50K listen to the masses and wait for a .2. This is practically a twin of mine, although the mileage on mine was much higher. If it gets thru a PPI without any major flaws, I would consider 42-43K to be a fair price point. I wanted the .2, just couldn't find one with my wish list, anywhere near my budget cap.
All of that being said, I FREAKIN' LOVE the sweet 2008 Meteor Gray C2S I picked up.

+1 for the 997.2
At $50k I would look to get a newer car. That low mile premium is a whopper! You need to decide how much low miles are worth to you. Of course condition is paramount and low miles play into that.

Not me. Personally I dont like the idea of buying a high mile 997.2 S. You are still paying a lot of money for a car that has ~80k miles and is guaranteed to drop 20% in value when you roll 100k. Tack on another 5% loss when it turns 10yrs old and financing becomes harder. Thats ~$10k lost in 2yrs guaranteed, not including a single maintenance bill. At those miles you will be looking at a clutch in 2yrs, new rotors, new coils and plugs, and possibly new struts.
As far as the 997.1, I think the sweet spot for a 2006+ S is <40k miles at $42-45k. I'd pay a few thousand more for a car in impeccable shape and a warranty but I don't really value "super low" miles on their own. It can introduce its own problems. There are plenty of cars you can find on the market in this range, you just need to expand the search nationwide and add $1k for shipping and flights to get the PPI.
I would have zero hesitations about buying a 997.1 in this range. You will have minimal depreciation over the next 2yrs and your maintenance cost will likely be a fraction of the depreciation on a high mile 997.2.
If you are however determined to get a 997.2 and have a budget under $50, I would consider a 997.2 base model with <40k miles. I think you can get those at $45-50k.
My two cents.

$45k is a fair number for that car pending the results of a PPI. If the water pump has never been changed, it's going to need to be. Even though it only has 12k miles on it, the coolant has been sitting in that pump for 10 years and it will likely fail prematurely (looking at mileage alone) especially if the car hasn't been driven much, which this one hasn't at 12k miles.
