Insurance may total 2010 997.2!?
After experiencing my 997.1 I helped a friend purchase a beautiful 2010 997.2 C4s 6m/t, 55k miles, one owner. Unfortunately the car was involved in a minor incident with a large rock that pushed in the front bumper, damaged the radiator/ control arm, wheel, rocker panel, and maybe some of the subframe. Over the phone the insurance company claimed that the car may be totaled, which we hope is not the case.
How terminal or not does this damage look?
Damaged wheel, tire and bumper cover.
View of the radiator and strut
Most worrying damage.

Does not look bad, but once they take it all apart it may add up to more than you expect. But I agree it should not be totaled. But once frames or subframes get damaged most of them want to write the whole thing off. I suggest take it to a shop for an actual cost estimate, but if they offer up a check for full market value then decide what to do.

Hope it's not too bad, just went through something similar on the rear of my car, they re-did the rim, replaced the bumper, painted the quarter, control arm, but not one mention of totaling the car. Make sure they send the right adjuster to view the disassembly, since you will only know once it's apart.

You may have to replace subframe ($800) and steering rack for sure. Still shouldn't be more then $6-8 which I assume way less then "total" loss. Call your dealer for reputable body shops.

Try to go to one of the Porsche approved repair shops:
https://www.porschecollisioncenter.com/
Aluminum frame damage is not an easy thing to deal with. Can't tell these things from the pics (they don't look terrible), but it's going to get a teardown regardless. Nothing you guys could do now, just send it off to a ggreat shop and keep your fingers crossed. Decisions occur after.
Good luck.

Total is never a bad thing. Rather have that and start over than get back a car with a lot of work and a dinged Carfax.
Speaking from experience, it does not take a lot in outer appearance damage to total one of these cars.

If the frame or sub-frame is damaged or tweaked......its going to be totaled. It happens on sport bikes too, if it falls over and dings the aluminum frame....insurance companies will total it even if it does not look that bad. Then they get it and make money by parting it out. same with cars. Once they total it and give you a check, they own it and then will sell it to a salvage yard, they take it apart and sell the pieces....the motor, interior bits, gauges, brake discs, wheels, bumpers....

Also depends on what the body shop is quoting to fix. When I wrote off my 996, they estimated $22k CAD to repair it... but they were fixing everything. The had their price down to $11k for me if I decided to keep it. Their original estimate include new glass all around (windshield had less than 100 miles on it), repainting every panel except the roof, and, since the exhaust tips fell off, replacing the entire exhaust system (around $6k). All for a similar incident that crushed the left front rads, mangled F&R bumpers and pulled off my tips.
So.
Find out what the body shop is actually fixing and go from there.

One thing I forgot to add: I went through an insurance claim situation recently, and someone mentioned to be sure to get a diminished value payout if the car is not totaled. I was not familiar with that process at the time, glad someone brought it up.

^ Agreed.. I got close to 3K diminished value claim on my base 987 Cayman that was dinged by an idiot in a parking lot.. I had to pay $250 for an official appraisal but that netted me almost 3K. If I had never asked I would never has received..

Repair cost has to exceed 75% (or pretty close to it) of current market value for them to total it. If no airbags deployed, on a GTS, I doubt you'll get anywhere near a repair cost that would total the car. Frame rails can even be replaced as Porsche has laser measured alignment marks that the body shop can go back to and reference when welding on the new section of frame rails.
I would start gathering recent sale prices from same year GTS cars so you can establish true market value for your diminished value claim, rather than them using Blue Book Value, which seem low.
