Default Why is PSE so hard to find in a 997?

I have been looking for a 997 for the last 3 months or so. One thing I noticed is that the PSE option is very rare. I have seen lots of cars for sale and only a couple of them had PSE as an option. Is there any reason that it wasn't more popular in the 997's?

I would imagine the frequency of this option showing up on a particular 911 depends on what 911 you're talking about.

every single 997 GTS would have it.
I'd imagine there are a healthy amount of 997.2 Carrera S with the option as well.

if you are talking about a bone stock Carrera with no performance options in the first place it's no surprise

You can add it yourself if you want. Suncoast had them on sale a while back. At some point though they will all be gone.

I ordered PSE for my 2011 997.2 C2S from Suncoast last week. Supposed to arrive Thursday. My indie is going to install it early next week. Will update with my impressions then.

I am looking specifically at 997.2 Carrera S models. Seems like only a very small number of them have it on all the ones I have seen.

I am hoping to find a car with the PSE option so that I can save the cost of adding it afterwards.

My car came with PSE, but there is no way I'd consider adding it after the fact, due to cost. Even with PSE the car still needs exhaust work to sound good. If you find a car with all the right spec but without PSE I'd say an aftermarket solution would be better anyways. I've modified the PSE on my car and I'll be making more changes to the exhaust in the future as well.

You're totally right, but if the OP is in California I'd suggest doing some research before adding an aftermarket exhaust. It doesn't seem like many are approved by CARB (California Air Resources Board) and inspectors seem to know which are okay and which are not.

Their rarity is probably a result of the cost of the option . Porsches traditionally sounded great when they were all air-cooled (911). Then came the 996 that a lot of folks found wanting in the exhaust sound quality.
Enter Darin Fister and a host of others to fill the gap at a cost of less than 1000.00 dollars. you now have a plausible explanation. Plus like a poster above said at least to me Fister sounds better than PSE at a fraction of the cost.

Fined, how did you modify your PSE?

It was a $2500 option back in 2009. Would you have ordered it? Just do a SharkWerks bypass and call it good

Yup. I'm guessing you're referring to the center muffler which first off is heavy as a large boat anchor and also ruins what the PSE is supposed to fix. I have the Sharkwerks bypass pipes in place of the center muffler and I think those pipes with the PSE is a hard combo to improve on. Had a full Tubi system on the -09 C4S which sounded great too but a little more "Euro"/ higher pitch.

You would need a crystal ball to read minds of the original owners. The best sellers were S versions in PDK form without PSE.

Forget the PSE!
