Default High pitched whine under load

New here - I have a 2009 C4S 6 speed that I've just recently noticed a distinct extremely high pitched whine coming from the rear when the engine is under load - noticeable around 3500 rpm. The sound is rpm dependent and gets more intense as the rpms climb. Car drives just fine.

what could it be???

has this noise been present since you've owned it, or is this a new development?

just noticed it last night. However, it was about 20 degrees out and icy. Hasn't been that cold since owning the car. I will bring it in to a shop to get it checked out.

I get a high pitched rpm based whine from my speakers if I'm using the Aux input and have no device attached.

I suffered for years with a brain numbing, maddening whine that was draining my soul ... I divorced her and bought a Porsche.

Power steering pump possibly, I bet you need to top it off. When I got my 2009 two years ago, I had a whine, besides my GF in the car, and I checked the PS reservoir. Yup, it was low. I bought some at Suncoast, I used a baster to suck out the old fluid and added new fluid in. Turned the wheel a few times to get rid of the air, and no problems since.
