Take the seat apart and take the cover off. The back of real leather looks like suede.

That's rather drastic, but starting to look like the only option....

An update on this topic: I (finally) applied the Leatherique Rejuvinator, basically covering the whole seat except the seatbacks.
It is now soaking in under a bit of modest Belgian sun.
I applied it 7h ago, will let it soak in for another 5-6h or so.

I'll let you know how it went!

I have used Leatherique on interior panels where I was unsure whether it was leather or vinyl. There is no detrimental effect on the vinyl. Just make sure you clean all of the oil off of the surface after you're done. If you don't, it just stays tacky and feels gross.

I have used Leatherique on several cars now and have been VERY pleased with the results.

Opinions vary widely
Which parts of the standard "partial leather" 997 seats are actual leather, and which ones are vinyl?

I have added a picture to clarify:

- RED L: should be perforated leather?
- YELLOW V: should be vinyl?
- GREEN L/V?: no idea whether it is leather or vinyl?

The reason for asking is that the left side bolster of my driver's seat is creased/starting to crack, and so I have ordered Leatherique "Rejuvinator" and "Prestine Clean" to see if it does any good.
The Prestine Clean can be used on both real leather and vinyl, but the Rejuvinator oil should not be used on vinyl (as it will not be absorbed by the plastic).

Of course, without actually knowing which parts áre vinyl or leather, I have no idea where to use only Prestine Clean (vinyl) or both (leather).

If you could help me out that would be greatly appreciated!

As far as I know, only the back of the seats are vinyl. But the yellow V parts might be vinyl as well.

Still owed you a picture of the front seats treated with Leatherique Rejuvinator, then Prestine Clean.
The result is very good, the nice (matte) new-leather-look is back.
It didn't do anything for the creases though, but I guess that's not what it is for.

I used the leatherique products on the entire seat, except the back.
Upon closer inspection, the structure of the perforated parts (indicated with the red L in my picture above) seems to differ from the parts indicated with L/V and V.
Could it be that only the perforated parts are leather, and all the rest is vinyl I wonder...
Or just different sorts of leather?
