Numeric shifter cables
Just a call-out for the wonderful difference these make to the shifting experience - extreme certainty along with a great gated feel and sound. For interest I also have the Function First shift solution which may enhance the experience, and have used some of Numeric's silicone tubing from the firewall back to manage a bit of noise transmission.

Cant wait to get mine installed. I bought them last year and finally, last week, got the car into the shop to install them.
The shop first installed the Numeric shifter and then went to install the cables. Got half way through the job and found the cables were way too long. They called Numeric who confirmed the wrong ones were sent.
Waiting now on a replacement. Frustrating, but hoping it will be worth it in the end.

I had them installed with the shifter. Works and feels great.
However during install the tech had a tuff time getting my OEM shift **** on, they had to shave a bevel into the connector rod for the ****.
Numeric was alright to deal with at first, they said they would send a replacement. Once I told them they got the **** on with shaving a bevel they stopped responding to me. I still wanted a new replacement instead of the hack. So disappointed in them from that perspective.
If they are listening I'll still take the replacement piece!

I have Numeric shifter on stock cables, feels great. IF you don't want the total mechanical feel, don't use the cables too. With both its feels much like the older manual transmissions that used shift rods, not cable, that went from the shifter to the transmission. Sort of like a top loader 4 speed on my departed 66 Mustang. Its going to give your hand a wrist more work to do, but its precise and has no slack or flex, with both being used.

The 986/987 product page lists the following codes
This was the cable I were the 987 6speed cables below
For the 996/997, it only shows one code, NM202, which is what I have been told is being sent to me as a replacement.
But, it also states on the 996/997 product pages this...

make SURE you have a proper installer for them - they aren't super tricky but they aren't as simple as installing oem cables. my original installer was an older porsche tech, and can only install oem cables - was totally dumbfounded.
in the end he had the cables reversed and totally misunderstood the fine-tuning screw/nut mechanism that that adjusts the final length of the cables so that shifter sits and points up in the neutral position. the goofball re-installed my entire centre console with the shifter pointing off to 1 o'clock position and called it a day... because he didnt understand the fine-tuning screw/nut mechanism (didnt even both to study it and figure it out) i could hear the nut rattling around in the cable until i took it to a proper installer.
re the installation itself, one flaw in the design is the plastic coupler used to attach the cable to shifter, you need a considerable amount of force for it to snap together - my 2nd porsche tech (who fixed all the issues of the crappy first installer) had to grease the coupler a little to get it to finally fit... and after a year and a half the coupler came loose and snapped off... luckily i was only stranded at my dads house.
i had to take the lower console apart again, snap on an (extra) fresh plastic coupler and after a few tries everything snapped together.
