Default Stuck in 3rd

okay so I have owned my 997.2 for less than a week. I was driving Spiritedly today and when I came to the light it is stuck in 3rd gear. I have no idea where to start to look for the issue. Anyone start me in the right direction? Thanks.

Sounds like a broken shifter cable

Any idea how to get to it? Is it by the shifter or by the tranny?

It's sucks how it passed the PPI then this happens. Here is a DIY thread.

A PPI won’t catch cables that are ready to snap.

Thank you so much for the link to the cable change out. It was exactly what I needed. I pulled it all apart and the threaded portion came undone. I just put it back together and I am already back on the road. For good measure I will be changing out those cables for something a little more beefy.

Nice work. Fairly straightforward getting in there to adjust the shifter end of the cables. Let us know if you change them out!

Yea that link above was excellent. I plan on doing the cables, but I have a few items I want to take care of first. This forum has been great.

I've read about an increase in noise with the Numeric cables. How's your experience with both on your car?

You're welcome! What's that debris on the shifter tray? It looks like metal shavings or cigarette ashes.

What you are seeing is plastic that came out of the connector when it came apart. It is not a very good design and because of the wear you see I will be replacing those cables in the near future.

The shifter is fantastic....is there noise increase? I would say yes as the shifter is rifle bolt action so there is audible feedback as you row up and down through the gears...:but slightly more than the OEM SSK. The cables do transmit a faint gear sound going through 3k, but I hear that as music.

I wouldn't mind the noise either. My other car has a Getrag so it has the infamous gear whinning sound and flywheel chatter.

I'm just trying to understand how the additional noise is being generated. Is it from the metal pivot points carrying more resonating frequency from the transmission vs the OEM plastic and rubber ones?

The Numeric cables have metal eyelets and a rubber bushing. I would believe that the sound is transmitted down the cable as the vibration spectrum finds the resonant frequencies. Enough of the engineering crapola....the shifting is very precise and that’s the reason to do it...stock and SSK can’t hold a candle to the Numeric setup.
