You may need to get it coded to the car by a Porsche dealer.

That being said, check the threads here about upgrading the radio. For less than $500 you can get a modern head-unit which will be way better than that PCM system.

That car looks like solid buy, nothing wrong with a clean base car, and that is more than a fair starting price. But if you didn't enjoy the driving keep looking, the tiptronic is a solid transmission, PDK is even better and sharper.

if your budget allows get a 997.2 S for another 10-15k more. You will have a hard(er) time selling that someday and in the end when you sell the 997.2 the $ factor will most likely be better on 997.2....997.2s with stick or PDK is much more desireable and a much better car in my opinion - all boils down to what’s important to you and what you want out of the car(daily driver, track car, weekend warrior)

I have a 08 C4 with tip and love it. That's a good price and I say go for it if it checks out.

You guys bring up a good point about resale value. I'm buying this car as a daily driver with no intentions of selling it, not any time soon if it treats me right. My budget is within this car's price range so a 997.2 is not realistic for me unfortunately. I do realize at some point I will need to sell the car (150k + miles later) but if I can get 40-50% of my money back, I will be a happy camper. Is this realistic or am I dreaming?

remember your buying a 10+ year old sports car to drive as a daily driver. These cars can get expensive to own, just be mindful of that and make sure you budget at least $1500+ per year to maintain it. One of the most fun parts is the HUNT! If you’re willing to search nationwide your options of color, mileage, options will certainly open up. Take your time, be patient and find Your perfect one 4 u, good luck!!!!!

I would think that's completely realistic. In a few years there will be a kid that never learned to drive stick that would love to own a curvy bodied Porsche 911 with goid lokking headlights for $15,000

Update: the owner is out of town so I'm still waiting for him to get back so we can negotiate on the price.
Quick question; is there a difference with the engine or options between the 2006 - 2008 models?

Nothing significant. 2009 was a change in engine, lighting, and PCM.

Thanks for your input, yup I'm aware that starting from 2009 they introduced the DFI non IMS bearing engine. I wish I had a budget for these models.
I thought these cars are evolving and gets better each year? So absolutely no changes from 06' to 08'?? That's really disappointing.

No changes that I'm aware of. There were a couple from '05 to '06. Aside from the IMS bearing change in mid-05, '06 introduced TPMS (so that you had to worry about the batteries in your srnsors) and weight sensing airbag deactivation for the passenger seat ('05 requires installation of a manual switch).

They rolled out additional models throughout the generation lifecycle, like the Turbo and Targas, but didn't really change the already released ones until the mid-cycle refresh ('09), and that's pretty much the model they follow today.

If literally the only issue is the nav screen, thats a VERY simple fix. You can even swap in a new updated HU for a 150 bucks or so plus the cost of the HU.

I was able to fetch an 07 997S with similar miles for 36K I believe and it had the turbo wheels and aero package... sticker was 109K MSRP.

If you could come in around 32K for that car I think youd be in a better spot.

The Cons: Tiptronic, even though I prefer 6sp manual but a tiptronic would not be the end of the world for me
Broken screen, can easily be replace with OEM or aftermarket. I'm leaning towards the latter.
Base model with no options

The Pros: The body and paint is in great shape
The interior is very clean and no visible wear or scuff
No leaks underneath motor, runs very smooth
Low mileage
Is a C4 with the wide body, this is my most favorite part of the car
You can find 2009 for around 40k. It has better engine, better PCM, probably PDK or manual. And regardless of what some people say tiptronic is NOWHERE close to PDK. I had all 3 : manual, tip and my current one is 2010 s with PDK . imho the best transmission ever made

I did find a 2009 for $42k but Carfax said it had an accident. Other than that, all 2009 I've seen were mid to high 40k. My offer will be 33k and if he doesn't take it I will move on, owner is still on vacation. I've driven a tiptronic on a 996 and 997, both put a huge smile on my face and it was actually thrilling to downshift and hit the gas! Some might not know this but you don't have to shift the gear lever to manual to be in manual mode. Simply just push the button at any time to be in manual mode, after a while it will go back to auto mode if you're not shifting. There are pro's and con's to a tiptronic and also for the 6sp manual. My 1st choice would be the 6sp manual but it would not be a deal breaker for me if it had a tiptronic. I haven't had the pleasure to drive a PDK yet but I'm sure it's badass. Heard they do break down and cost a small fortune to repair. From what people tell me and through researching, the 997.2 performance is only marginal to the 997.1. Is it worth $10k+ more? Most say no.

33k is a very fair offer for the seller, I would not go higher than that. Good luck!
