Default Door Handle Rubber Gasket Worth Replacing?

I'm working on restoring (and I use the term very lightly) my friend's 997S. I noticed today that there is a rubber gasket on the exterior door handle. The driver side gasket is broken and ready to fall off. I'm not really sure what this piece does. Perhaps it prevents water from getting in the area and freezing the door handle shut on a cold winter night. I think the part number for the gasket is 997-537-625-00 but the PET diagrams make it look very hard to get to... got to remove the interior door panel then remove the exterior handle and then disassemble the handle itself.

In the attached picture, the gasket would be at the space where the red arrow is pointing.

Has any one ever replaced one of these and is it really worth it?
