Default 5th gear grind?

Having intermitent grinding issues when shifting up to 5th. Car has only 42k and not raced. I did replace the shift cables last summer. Dont recall having grinding issue before changing the cables.
Is it possible that I did not install or adjust cables properly? All other gears work fine, except for first that sometimes refuses to engage and that was always there since I own the car.
I was thinking of checking adjustment but thought I would get oppinon before taking the console apart.

I would actually start with gear oil replacement using Mobil PTX gear oil. Should eliminate the balk into first and might also improve the 5th catch.

i get some noise if i shift quickly into 5th while cold and i have the short shifter. Have read that others have had same issue going into 5th. Mine goes away completely when warm. Original oil and 60K miles on the car. 2006 c4s.

Same as above can be a little noisy and stiff going into fifth when the box is cold once warmed up is perfect ,,,car has always done this and I know other 997 owners with the same issue ,,,just part of the 911 charm
