what give the gt3 that nice intoxicating sound?
as an owner of a c2 who cant afford a gt3 what would it take to get your c2/c2s to sound similar? already have xpipe and mufflers... will do a gt3 rear bumper in the future...
but do i need to unite both banks like on the gt3 to make it sound better...? the exhaust note on carreras is too raspy for my likings..

Usually it's air flow through the heads that makes a car sound a certain way. It's one of the things that gives the 5.0 Mustangs that unique and awesome sound. I'm not sure you can create it on a non-Mezger engine, but my C2S with Fabspeed long tube equal length headers, mufflers, and X-cats doesn't sound raspy to me - it screams, more like a GT3 car. It might be the headers aligning the exhaust pulses, which is why equal length long tube headers are better than either the stock OEM ones or even the X51 versions. I have heard many 997 exhausts that sound raspy like you describe, Tubi being one of them where there's a reverberation in the background you can hear. Here's a short video of mine - drive by and a rev. I need to do another where I'm driving by under higher RPM hard acceleration to really get the sound represented.

equal lenght headers are next on my list..already have fabspeed xpipe and mufflers...i think gt3 exhaust runs seperate until it gets to the tip where both banks meet and maybe cancel that raspiness..
i dont know why the stock headers have such a poor design..there is power to be extracted from a good header..stepped runners to a good collector and anti reversion chamber on a well design header would make better power than all the cookie cutter headers i see on the market..

I put X51 headers on mine and it did change the sound some.
I thought I read somewhere that equal length headers eliminates the unique "Porsche" fat six sound...maybe that's just on the Turbo....

Yes, Mezger is the reason why. However, the 991 GT3 sounds very good just a bit different than the 997 Mezger cars. But the 991 C2S and the 991 GT3 have a similar sound, sort of, but that is because they are both based on the 9A1 platform.

everybody says mezger..but thats just a name..what are the bore X stroke of both the mezger and the m96..from what i know cylinder pairing at the exhaust is what changes the sound according to firing order..

It's not some special unobtanium that gets you a similar sound. as people who own cars with that engine would have you believe. change the way the car breathes, you change the way it sounds.
