Hi guys I have a really wonky driveway... it's difficult because the approach is very aggressive too and the driveway itself is steep... for me to go down or up most of the time due to the waviness of the grade part of my car is in the air. for example going down my front right is suspending in the air as I get down the ramp and then it lowers slowly as I straight out. Going up similar.

No scraping.

BUT..... I'm just wondering why when I'm going up or down I feel a "grinding" sound. I don't mean to jump right to grinding sound bad but that's the only way I can put it... it's something under my front suspension going grrrr.. it doesn't come from rear--so just wondering if anybody can ease my mind on this. THanks!

With a stiff chassis and limited travel it is not unusual to see one corner lift going in or out of driveways. But grinding is a different thing. Can you post a sound clip?

When you drive down your steep driveway you are applying brakes and I suspect that what you call a 'grinding' sound is ABS action due to the fact that one wheel has no traction, given that, as you said, it is up in the air. The same thing may happen driving up the incline.

Is it possible the bottom of your front lip is scraping on the steeper portion of your drive?
Mine does if I don't have the proper angle backing down.

Thanks guys I don't know if it'll be easy for me to post a sound clip but the more I think about it after reading these posts I think it feels more like a tension build up type of a sound like a spring tightening.

I've been going up and down my driveway for the last 2 months as a daily driver and nothing broke but I figured I shouldn't just be ignorant if something bad is actually going on.

Front sway-bar bushings or the front struts shock-bearing-plates may need lubrication or replacement.

My 997 creaks as well angling down my steep-ish driveway. I always thought it was chassis flex / glass creaking like my 993s did. What lubricant do you use on the shock bearing plates / sway bar bushings and where exactly do you lube?

I have the same situation if I back down the drive and it's the abs kicking in.

The torsional rigidity of these cars is so good, it's not uncommon to have a wheel in the air in situations of high articulation, and that's fine.

A grinding sound isn't really. Are you scraping the front lip or something underneath the car. Next time it happens ,stop, put on the parking brake and go look under the car to see if something is touching.

If you're backing down a steep incline, it's also possible the ABS is activating because the front wheels have become so unloaded. Does it feel or sound like the ABS pump, and can you feel pulsing in the brake pedal when it happens?

When entering/exiting the apron of my steep driveway, if I approach at a sharp right angle, the front left wheel tends to leave the ground and provide enough ground clearance to avoid scraping. The suspension on these cars are simply amazing!
