I have previously owned the Durametric Pro, iCarSoft POR II, Launch X431 Pro 3 and currently own Foxwell NT510.

For 997.2 (facelift) cars none of the above will be able to do coding! Diagnostics works fine and service reset (oil change).

If you have 997.1 and actually have so much coding to do then Dura Pro may be worth it otherwise it's wasted money.

Of all those units which would be the most economic route for a 997.1 looking to: 1) reset the oil service reminder 2) reset/clear the airbag light when swapping factory seats for racing seats and vice versa.

My Durametric Pro will do all of those. The Pro is the only Durametric that will allow you to code for the fixed rear duck tail - the enthusiast version will not.

If your headlight and buffer related error is accompanied by a lightning bolt error message on the center screen, it's likely you'll need to more than just clear the code - you'll need a new front control module.

New to Porsche w/14 Cayman base w/14500 miles. I have a service light on. After talking to the service mgr at a NY dealer, found that the last service was a 10k oil change. I asked if it really needed plugs, belt, all fluids and all filters, dress the weather stripping etc., etc. per the 4year/40K service schedule and he said no. Change the oil and the engine air filters every 5-10k depending on the type of miles you drive and call it good till you get close to 40k. Then do the whole shebang. Good advice and goes with what I was thinking anyway. Where I'm going with this is: I DIY everything I am capable of with the exception of computer this and that. I would like to be able to turn off the Service alert, diagnose check engine light warnings etc and repair if necessary and shut the light out. I don't necessarily need to log and chart various functions of the car. Will iCarsoft be adequate or is Duramentric Enthusiast POR V2.0 worth the extra dough. I think I've read the later doesn't cover much of the 981.2. Thx, dlb

I have this one if anyone has specific questions. So far I've just used it to shut off the service minder. But it is supposed to support shutting off the airbag notices as well. I have had 2 occasions when my wife was sitting in the passenger seat and the airbag off light stayed lit. I've got to remember to toss it in the back foot well in case that happens again. It does support all the codes I think you would encounter at least in the 997.2. But I'm not aware of it being able to do any coding. I don't mind dropping into the dealer if I need that, but I want to be able to take care of my own oil changes and perform an initial diagnosis if needed.

That said, I have no idea what it can do on the 981/991 gen models. I think you might have to check in those forums for more relevant details.

I have had the Durametric and the Foxwell 520. I found both do very simple diagnostics and can clear simple fault codes. To get serious about working with a Porsche you need a PIWIS. I have one now and it's an incredible tool.

Get some of your Porsche friends together and purchase one! You wont regret it. It does require some education to operate safely! I go and help my local indy shops with coding issues and get shop credits!
