997.2 just bought car from dealer now check engine light on
First off, hello to everyone! I have been an active reader of this site for years and thanks to everyone for the great info on here. I just picked up my new (to me) 2009 997.2 911 with 6 speed tonight. I bought it from a local porsche dealer. Before picking up, I did everything recommended (PPI and rev test), which passed with flying colors. The car has 41k miles and the dealer did the 40k service this week before I picked it up. Anyways, I drove it home about 30 miles and parked it for an hour to do some stuff around the house. An hour later I got in and after 5min the check engine light came on. I called the dealer immediately and they said I should not be worried, it's probably nothing, and if it is something, they will take care of it at their cost (I got them to confirm this in writing). Anyways, I have been reading threads on this and I am wondering if they just overfilled the oil. The light that is on is the check engine (it is not blinking), not the check oil. When I did the engine oil check, it is filled on notch above max. Attached are pics of both. The dealer said to start the car again tmrw before bringing it to see if the error clears. That being said, it seems to me they need to drain some oil regardless (car is indicating this oil level at a cold start). Any input would be much appreciated

Yes, the oil is overfilled. Easy fix.
Check the easy stuff first; gas cap tight? and oil fill cap tight?
Get the code read, and move on. Don't worry.

On a 997.2 you can’t check the oil level at a cold start. The engine and the oil has to be fully up to temperature before the car will go through the oil level sequence. Sounds like the dealer will stand behind you. Enjoy your car, my ‘09 is a blast.

I would strongly recommend buying a cheap obd2 reader or bluetooth obd2 dongle and a smartphone program so that you can read and delete codes so you can both know what the issue is and how serious it may be.

Oil is overfilled. The fault may clear itself but come back on depending on oil temp, slope of road and will be very annoying. Have dealer drain off so that the level is down one bar.

Go to any auto part store and they or you can pull the code. If you were to clear a code, about 30 miles is when it would come back...so I would keep an eye on this dealer. They may have cleared it thinking it was a fluke and handed you the keys.

From the first pic - too much oil - overfill.
The target is to put the oil level BETWEEN the two horizontal lines with the arrows on them. Everything lit up is too much oil.
