After your 997 - Do you aspire to go older (air cooled), newer (991+) or GT?

I think about this pretty often, too. On the street, I don't feel like I need any more power than the 997.1 C4 I have right now. On the track, it's frustrating that my car is now one of the slower cars in the straight bits, so I keep thinking about a C4S.
In theory, I would love to have a GT3. But even with the number of DEs I do, I know that a Turbo is a better choice for me. I need the back seats and I daily drive mine all year and I don't think a GT3 will be great in Chicago winters. The Turbo, though, would be fine. My C4 is wonderful in the winter. I'd love another hundred and sixty horsepower, though!
I don't see the 997 as a long-term car for me. I'll be shocked if I make it to the two-year mark. Actually, tomorrow marks my 1 year anniversary with this car. It's one good deal away from being gone at any point.

I told my wife when i bought my 7.2 C2S two years ago, "this is my first 911, and will not be my last". You know how words are and things change and what not. I still can't wait to drive this car, not DD, but driven alot, 12k a year so far. I just can't see anything else right now. I would have done a GTS 997 as a do over though, but seriously, i love this car.
I also have a pro-touring 1970 SS/RS-LS camaro that is very well sorted, and it's just baddass to drive, recaro seats, momo wheel, 315'/18's on Forgelines, 420hp at the wheel, three pedals, harness and bar. Handles very well sideways at 70. I'm still intimated by the 997 as the Porsche is still a better car than i am driver.
Funny too, how i noticed most air cooled replies on here are 993. I would love to build a "Singeresque" 964, modded suspension, modded engine, hot rod. Maybe someday.
Right now i'm satisfied, very, with what i have. Very blessed to even discuss this. And we just bought a new Cayenne (well, almost new).

My goal is to add to sell my allroad at some point and add a Panamera 4S Sport Turismo to the garage. I'm in love with that thing.
I don't want to sell my 997. If I do I'll probably never find another one like it for the deal that I got.
But if I were to go older or newer, I would go newer if the budget were below $200k. Carrera T, Carrera GTS or GT3 Touring would be what I would choose from. Test driving would be fun
If the budget were anything above $200k I'd save my pennies and look at Singer.
Most realistically I'm keeping my C4S and will start adding stuff from my dream mod list, and bite the bullet on a 4 liter engine should I find bore scoring.

I've been fortunate to have the cars that I really want, and the 997 is the sweet spot for me for the 911 line. I love the one I bought (recently) and I imagine I'll just hang onto it for a long time. I've always thought the 993s were awesome cars, but the more I think about it, I like the 997 better. I also prefer the 997.1 vs 997.2.

My problem is that I want to keep our current 997 and get an additional car.
Was thinking a long time about a 964 (which i think is much better looking than 993) but prices are on such levels that I haven't thought its been worth it. Prices are going down but actually I am starting to loose interest. Have thought about a 964 all track-car but then why not buy something faster for less money?
Now my ideas are more in the line of a Maserati GT which I always desired. Exhaust note alone is a reason to buy that car. Have also been thinking about a renovation project: Datsun/Nissan 240Z, Volvo P1800. etc.

What a great topic! i have been pondering the same question for months,,,,sell the 997.2 C4S, and the 993, buy a 997 GT3....but...the C4S is a year round car here in Oregon. I just drove it over the Cascade range yesterday on a sunny winter day from central Oregon to the coast and back...sure there was a little snow and ice on the top...just more sideways fun, no one on the roads, no deer, you can let it rip...To me the 997 is a GT car compared to the 993, more capable yes, but more fun, I don't think so. I have had a 77 S and a 78 SC, both great cars, but compare to the 993, tough to spend a full day in it driving. To me the 993 is the best of the old and the new. Raw enough, fast enough and enough of that air cooled magic. Everytime I drive the 993, and I mean everytime, I smile when I turn the key and hear that engine fire up, it is a true sports car, you are in the moment with the 993, it seems sooo much smaller and more direct than the 997. And if we are being honest here, unless you are on a track in a GT3, and you are using the car anywhere near its potential to get that "oh yea " feeling on the road, if Johny Law is around, it is not going to go well or be cheap. I don't need to be going anywhere near as fast to get the same pleasure from the 993.
Sooooo, I will keep both....boy that was easy! And start saving for a GT3...and a bigger garage. Yes I am a addict..

I think I'm in a couple of sweet spots right now with my 1985 911 and my 2011 997.2. Both black on black, both manual transmission. Biggest problem is deciding which one to drive. There is a good chance I'll never buy another one.

Love my 997.2 C2s cab, but my dream would be a 997.2 GT3 Touring, Paint To Sample in some classic Porsche shade of blue (Mexico, Riviera, Gulf, Albert, Meisen, etc...), European delivery.

You know there are pictures of the e-mission floating around and it looks nothing like your picture above, it just looks like an updated Panamera, no thanks.
Same here, 997.2 GT3 is a PTS Mexico or Riviera blue. The 964 was my first introduction to Porsche, love the way it drives but still I'm no fan of air cooled cars. More maintenance and can't stand the old interior. Personally, I don't understand the obsession. If it's a daily driver, it will be a 991.2 C2/4S. I like the modern conveniences like homelink, bluetooth, Lane change assist (should be a standard on all new cars, it's a safety feature), just modern technology in general. If money is no object, the brand new 991.2 GT3 with MT in Miami Blue, with PCCB, no brake dust. I hate cleaning brake dust.

The only pictures I’ve seen are Panamera-based drivetrain mules, so that makes sense. Porsche has a good record of production cars looking like the concept.

I had 997 C2S, then I get 997.1TT, now I want 991GT3 but most likely waiting for 718 Spyder with rumors of 4.0L engine. At some point in life, I gotta have an "F" car but not now.

Obvious no, the older the car, the more wear and tear there will be. Personally, I just don't care for the dated interiors, even the 997 is outdated for me.
