Default Techron - How much and How often?

2009 C2S 120K miles

I just ordered a 6 pack of 20 oz Techron (comes in 12 or 20 oz).

How much, how often, before a long trip or before a few weeks of short grocery-getting trips?

Full disclosure: I occasionally use Technron in both my C2S and my Wife's IS250....... I could never tell a difference... but I do it anyway to stop one of the buggy voices in my head. But I just did my plugs and one was black with carbon so..... more paranoia.

Peace

Recommended in the tank just before any oil change. Or simply buy Chevron gas.

I'll just leave this here for anybody who might live in an area without Chevron stations.

May be regional but Texaco also has Techron added.

OMG! No WaWa or Royal Farms!!!

I suspect these are no-additive brands. Gas is governed by regs...... gas is not bad for you... additives are better for you... that is about it for me.

once every 6 months is probably fine.

I'm gonna try bg44k as I'm told it works better, but none of these things have ever done anything for me either.

What I read on the BMW email list years ago was to use a bottle of techron with 1/4 of a tank left and change the oil immediately afterwards. This gives you a high concentration of techron for cleaning, but techron thins the oil so you don't want to be driving after running a high concentration of techron. So run for 1/4 tank, and then oil change immediately.

I agree with Wayne! And not every year unless the car is driven in traffic most of the time.

I've been using 0% ethanol, Chevron 94 Octane fuel (not available in US) almost exclusively, I'd then add Lubro Moly fuel injector cleaner and Valve cleaner every oil change. I think that's a good combo.

The Shell V-Power Nitro + is also a very good gas I use if I can't find a Chevron.

I’m not sure Techron does anything for DFI engines like 9A1. Anyone know?

Won't clean your valves, if that's what you're after. Only a solution applied at intake would do anything and I am not sure a reputable solution has been found yet. I am quite disappointed no one has come with a direct injection cleaner system, VW came up with a new mode of injection that in some loads is direct injected and some modes not (cold startup I think), but I am not sure if anything with such tech has come to market. [Correction: there are some Audi engines with this tech now]

Looks like some cars already come with this dual port and direct injection... sounds like the best of both worlds!

There is no issue with the 9A1 DFI intake tract. I had mine checked recently and there was no issue.
