When did IMS get fixed?
coming from a 996, now shopping for a 997, when did they finally resolve the ims issue? I am mostly looking at 08/09, but have seen a few nice 06 cars.
also is the 3.8 any better than the 3.6?

09 and on have no IMS Shaft. 06 revised bearing seems pretty stout and few failures have been reported.

Why not just save a bit more and get the 09 and not ever have to worry about IMS issues. The DFI is said to be the bulletproof engine of the water cooled.

I did exactly what you're about to do (back in March of this year) and I would without doubt recommend to go with the newer 997.2 (PDK if you have the possibility and especially if it has Sport Chrono Plus package installed as well...).
I had a 996 2002.2 C4S and what a difference compared with my now new 997.2 C4S (3.8L 385HBP)
For me, I wanted a more up-to-date vehicle and the PCM 3.0 ticked all the boxed compared to the old PCM 1.1 (16 bit) and of course no more sleepless nights about the maybe could may happen IMS and RMS issues (which I luckily never encountered) and of course getting the new DFI engine (9A1). The PCM 2.0 in the 997.1, to me seems dated and looks out of place, and the 991's PCM 3.1 looks too leisure like if it makes sense.
One of the first things I noticed when taking the 997.2 C4S for my first test driver was how "raw" it felt compared to the much "softer" 996 I had driven for 4 years. The PDK seems "sluggish" in normal mode but changes to a different beast when in Sports Mode and to an absolutely untamed animal when in Sport+ so a little something for everyone.
Resell value (not a reason why I bought one) but the 997.2 came in relatively small numbers as it was during the hight of the Finance Crises back at the end of the 2000's and of course the excuse us 997.2 owners have, it's (again) the last of the proper 911's before Porsche went all Grand Tourism and electrified the 911 model.
