Michelin Pilot Sport PS2 vs PS 4S
 

Sounds like a lot of Rennlisters are running PS2's and I am sure they are great, but does anyone have experience yet with the PS 4S? My tire guy told me they are basically the next generation of PS 2, should be better, and i should go with them in the event i need one replaced in the future, the PS 2's may be hard to find because Michelin won't be producing them any more.

I would say many RL are running PSS, not PS2s, since the Super Sports replaced the PS2s.

In general, I'd say Michellin are great tires, but as they have made them last longer (PSS and the new PS4S), less expensive, and gave them better wet traction performance, they have lost some of their dry traction performance (like the PS2).

4S is fantastic in all conditions--street, wet, and track.

Pilot Sport 4S is the new version of the Pilot Super Sport... not the PS2.

Do the folks running the 4S use factory air pressures or do you have to tweak it to get good results?

Most RLs don't run factory spec air pressures on any tires. Too high.

I currently have PS2s and will be replacing them with PS4Ss as soon as they wear out.

this is kind of a technicality, Esp since in most of the world the PSS was called the PS3, so yes, the 4S is a new version of the PS2, but most recently it is what replaced the PSS/PS3.

I haven't tried PS4, but MPSS... my experience has been that MPSS improved ride, wet, and wear over PS2, BUT it actually lost dry performance! PS2 essentially worked a little like track tires, it had little grip if cold and then immense grip when hot and on track. MPSS has a broader range of temps that it works great, and so much better in Wet, but doesn't have the ultimate grip of PS2 in dry.

Now, if PS4 goes in the same direction, I assume it'd be similarly behaving to MPSS. So, I'd go for those as overall street tires, but if price were the same and I mostly did dry/track, I may stick to PS2.

I am curious to know which street tire is as good or better in the dry than PS2 ....also have similar or less noise level ..... any ideas ?

So if your running 19 in tires, setting the PSI lower is better than the factory settings? I don't want to open any worm can, but when I asked my indy he simply said, why would you not want to run stock PSI?

What are you currently using? 34/38 would be a decent starting point. Adjust as you see needed.

I'm currently running 33/37 and feel that the ride is still a little firm.

For my 2012 GTS, I'm running PSS and like them better than my previous PS2s.
I'll probably go with PS4S next.
