Sold my 2011 911 4S
I sold my 911 and purchased a new Cayman. I could not justify paying about $45,000 more for a comparable new 911. Surprisingly, the Cayman feels as quick as my 911 was, especially when using the overboost function. I felt the seats in my 911 where good but the seats in the Cayman are even better. More supportive and more comfortable. Overall I am very pleased with the Cayman.
The Cayman forum here on Rennlist is almost useless. Very little participation.

I know a guy here at work who sold his Cayman S for a Jaguar SUV. To each his own....

Opposite story for my taste. Prior to purchasing anything, a friend loaned me his 2016 Cayman (same blue color!) for an entire day. It was beautiful & tight, plenty quick, but the cockpit didn't feel as refined. The "connection" to the steering wheel and stick was not as perfect to me. Most important, my back started to ache after a few hours so I opted out.
I was in my 997.1 for over 4 hours yesterday and I felt invigorated on the PA turnpike.
Still, she's a sweet ride, enjoy every minute!

‘Less is more’ Tom. Living below your means/wants is its own reward, and as a bonus, your wife gets an extra $45,000 in her kitchen bathrooms renovation fund. Win, win doncha think?

Never mind, I see the decal on the side. 718! Quite a change. I have driven a 981 S and boy was it fun. So is my 997, but the 981S with PASM was another level of precision.

Many are saying that as the 911 has evolved more into the GT class, the Cayman is the true spiritual successor to the original 911 concept of a pure Porsche sports car. I haven't driven a Cayman but I did own a Boxster for awhile, and it sure felt like a pure sports car. My 928 (and I've had 4 of them) are clearly the GT class car of Porsche, and my 997 feels more like the 928 than it did like the Boxster. Anyway, beautiful car. Let's see more pictures of it.
PS - color not too much unlike my Blumaxx

I made a very similar move as you did. However, I sold a 997.1 C2S for a 981 Base Cayman.
I must say that I do not regret it one bit. The Cayman is tight and comfortable all at the same time. The 2.7 liter flat six is delicious and sounds amazing. Obviously the 2.7 isn't as fast as the 718 2.0 but the power band is very usable on a daily basis and throttle response in traffic is immediate.
Congrats on the purchase!

beautiful car. I'd have a hard time going away from the 911, maybe a lot of it is just b/c I always wanted one since I was a little kid, but there is something about it that I really like. That being said the new ones are getting larger and heavier, which is why I think the 997 is sort of a sweet spot for size and a modern automobile. I do like the GT4, but then again, I am not sure I would pay $80+ for a used car that has basically the same motor as the 997.2. The new one makes it even harder being a 4 banger

I may have missed this, but why did you sell the 911? Surprised to see someone going from an 997.2 to a Cayman unless there was something wrong with the 911? Or, you just needed a change (I'm on car #32, so I understand...)
