downsize from 997.2 to high mile 997.1? Cost effectiveness?
I currently own a very low mileage 997.2 C2S (11,000 miles) and I love the car, although I do wish it had adaptive sport seats. I don't drive it that much currently. I am considering getting a lower cost 997.1 manual C2S/C4S for under $40k, so that I don't take such a huge hit on mileage, and don't feel too bad about DD'ing it. The current car is too clean to drive in anything but nice weather and summertime, which is short here. I wouldn't feel bad about driving a "driver" more often, and it would allow me to drive something other than the truck each day.
Considering my current car is worth $60k or so private party, how cost effective would the downgrade be? I figure I will lose around $3,000 per 10k driven on the 997.2, whereas the depreciation curve will be flatter on the 997.1. With that said, will I get hit hard with maintenance on a car with 60k miles, and is that going to offset the lack of depreciation? From a performance perspective, the .2 is superior, but we are purchasing a 991 C2S manual cab, and the 997 will become more of a commuter. I would rather drive an older 911 over a Honda Fit each day, but racking up big miles on a nearly new 997.2 seems silly.
I may be simply overthinking things

To me is actually the opposite. It’s silly to have such an amazing car as the 997.2 and be afraid of driving it! Are you keeping it pristine for the next owner or what?
Just enjoy the one you have and stop worrying about depreciation. Unless you need the money for something else, drive it until the wheels fall off!

I'd keep the .2 for sure.

I understand where you are coming from and the most fun I had was when I bought a 2005 Boxster with 100k miles, I drove the heck out of it and never worried about mileage or what conditions I drove it in. The Cayenne liked it because it didn't have to drive in bad conditions and I always had a new like vehicle to drive when I wanted. But my case was a little different, I added to the stable.
What I don't get is you say this "but we are purchasing a 991 C2S manual cab, and the 997 will become more of a commuter. " If you can afford to do this, I have to assume the 997.2 is paid for and if you drive it a ton you won't diminish the value below any loan. I think you need to keep and drive the heck out of it. You know the car, you won't inherit any problems that might come with a 997.1.
Do you want to trade with me and I'll pay the difference . Oh wait mine is solid, I've put a ton into it.

FWIW, you "might" be incredibly happy in a nice .1 DD!
I know I am. My c2s.1 is everything I hoped and wished for and then some.
I can't wait to get in the cockpit each morning and I find excuses to go out to run errands for no reason. Yea, I wish I had waited for a .2, but I couldn't care less now.
All of that being said, you have a "gem" in your garage. Make it your DD now and go out and drive it "like it's your job!"
I think I have to go get some milk...
