Anyone identify this spring?
Came home from show and drive on Sunday. Decided to wash the car before putting it in. After car wash, drove down the block to dry off the rotors. Had my foot gently on the brake. Half way down the block, strange noise coming from underneath. Sounded like something - thin / wire like caught on something spinning - spinning speed didn't match wheel speed, was faster. Scared the living be-jesus out of me. Put it in neutral, same sound. After a few seconds, sounded like the thing dropped out. Didn't push the car at all, just inched it home as I didn't know what was going on.
Jacked the car up and pulled off all the underpans. Didn't see anything. looks dry.
Went to install the now cleaned and detailed pans back underneath and see this little spring thing lying next to the passenger rear wheel. Pans came off the car on that side, so this may have dropped into a pan and dribbled to the floor - or maybe not...
Anyone have an idea?
Looks dark in image, but looks stainless to me.
Thanks Fellas.
Car is 2009 997.2 Targa 4S

Guessing it's the spring that holds the brake shoes together for the parking brake shoes inside the rear rotor hats. Had the same thing happen on my 928 - scraping sound. If the shoes haven't retracted because the spring broke, driving it, you could overheat and warp the rotor or boil the brake fluid on that side (temporary loss of 1/2 brakes and a pedal that goes mostly to the floor).

This long spring? I don't think so.
mine is very thin stainless. Must not hold very much weight.
Something like hinge on cup holder...

Way too thick and strong looking to be a cupholder spring. How about the one pictured at the 9 o'clock position in your brake picture from Pelican. It has to be a brake related item if it made a scraping sound and then showed up in the undertray.

Except how did it get in the under tray since the brakes are outside the trays?? Maybe it was thrown there when it came unattached.

Things to check - a missing spring would be obvious:
Center console lid
Door handles - outer and inner
Inner door pocket lid
Side mirrors (they fold in)
Gas cap door
Cup holder
Front seat release to get into the rear
Rear seat release to fold down the backrests

I will check those areas semicycler. But I think this must come for engine compartment somewhere. Trying to figure where it could fall from and end up in the pan.
