Default Do yon need to register a new battery replacement on an '06 Carrera 4 997.1?

Hi,

A buddy of mine with a 2005 BMW 745 Li just changed his battery and he had to re-register the new battery to the car.

Another buddy of mine on a 2010 Cayman also had to re-register his new battery replacement with the car.

I just replaced my battery on my '06 997.1 C4, do I also need to re-register the battery?

Thanks

You dont have to. I have noticed the dealer updates something using PIWIS which 'tells' the car the battery has been replaced with a new one.

Thanks God, we do not have to do that stupid marketing gimmick. Another trick to turn the customer into an endless milking cow for dealers.

BMW yes, Porsche no - not even sure why the 2010 Cayman had to be re-registered.

The 2010 Cayman I assume is a typo, the new 981 (2013 and newer) you have to register it.

No gimmick at all with Porsche actually. It is necessary because the Gateway needs to know specific information from the battery so it knows how to properly charge the AGM battery.

Cars without AGM batteries do NOT require the tester for replacement at all.

2010 Caymen was definitely not a typo... that's the whole reason why I asked the question, but thanks for the response regardless.

I have an AGM battery... and I got an oversized one as well, so looks like I'm def gonna have to register it.

Thanks for the response.

Don't waste your time or money - I've replaced batteries in 997.1 and 997.2 and no dealer interaction needed - I've used both the Bosch H7 AGM and Bosch H8 AGM.
