I had a 2000 E55 AMG. I loved it - gobs of torque. Unfortunately, after about a year, I let my wife use it for a DD and she just absolutely tore the crap out of it. I don't recall any significant maintenance issues with it. I changed the harmonic balancer on it preemptively right after I got it on the recommendation of a buddy who is a MBZ dealer tech. It was about 5 years old when I got it, don't remember the mileage, but would not have been low miles as I tend to buy my cars with around 100k miles on them to avoid the depreciation hit.

I appreciate the offer but I'm leaning towards a 4 door at this point. Thanks though.

And thanks for all the replies guys...

I was referring to kmagnuss repairing his Range Rover every week. I was making a little joke.

The video is pretty damn funny too.

Learn what SBC brakes are and what kind of service they demand. Not too bad but you wouldn't want it to hit unprepared.

I also hear people preferring the older 5-speed transmission over the 7-speed.

Personally I like the CLK55. Dumb car with no special maintenance items. Naturally aspirated.

We went with a C32 AMG as a second car. It's smaller, but still has 4 doors and doesn't have nearly the complexity and therefore $$$ maintenance potential of the E class. Also, it only weighs ~150 lbs more than a 996TT. A C63 is slightly larger than a C32 interior-wise and a lot more powerful, but heavier too.

I know Grand Blanc well. You haven't missed much. Winter, potholes, but it really quiet out here. No traffic etc. I do not live in the town itself so I have farms all around me. Just about perfect (3 seasons out of the year)

Yeah, I'm sure the Porsche owner wasn't at all a setup. He was completely unsuspecting despite the film crew and the crash helmets. But funny nonetheless.

It isn't online, Doug DeMuro has one chapter in his "playing with cars" booklet dedicated to him showing up with an AMG wagon to a U.S. drag race. Very funny, recommended.

Forum member 'Kalashnikov' has an E55, and he loves it. He'd be a good guy to talk to about it, since he's been running his for awhile now.

Quick Reply: E55 AMG?
