Default Drove a 996TT today...WOW!

I've been searching for the right 911 for a long time, I originally considered an older air cooled model but the money that the long hoods are fetching these days are higher that I care to pay.

I've been thinking a 996TT or 997 C2S would be the way to go. So I test drove a 2002 996T black/black with 53k on the odometer that is priced at $45.9k and that damn thing was a rocket! Holy crap, third gear was magical! What a great car, very comfortable, awesome power and a real Beauty!

I'm afraid this car is going to ruin it for the 997 C2S!

Anyways, just wanted to share.

there's simply no comparison between the 996 Turbo and a 997 C2S....stock there's a 70hp gap, and with tuning that gap goes to nearly 150hp.

Was the car you drove bone stock or tuned? Base model or X50 car?

Good luck in your search.

Bone stock, not X-50.

Would you guys say $45k is about right for a 02' base Turbo with 53k? The car is beautiful and in excellent condition inside and out, has all records from new. I don't really see them going for much less than that.

I would say $45k is an excellent deal provided the PPI is clean.

This^. I paid 41k for a 2003 with a lot of mods, receipts, and clean 2 clean ppis. For a stock car, you're in the ball park. Don't bother with the 997.

You'll pay the same price for a slower car, a tiny bit better interior, and round headlights. The 997.1 still have ims and cylinder scoring issues. 996TT... bullet proof mezger engine derived from gt1 lemans car...

I'm good with the headlights and that Mezger engine is so sweet!

That engine block in the TT is magical. It makes me smile every time.

I looked at about 10 "mint" examples before finding one that actually was. A PPI is nice but you really need to get under that car and look at it yourself. Where did the car spend most of its life? California or Michigan? It makes a difference and Carfax can really help here. Any interior trim pieces hanging off? Repaints are almost always determinable by looking at them. It makes a difference and Carfax can really help here.

I picked a 996 TT over a 997 C2 and would again.

I considered the 997.2, but the 996TT is simply more thrills.

Of course you posted this on the 996 TT forum, so the responses are going to be fairly predictable :-)

The "non-turbo" 996 and 997 cars are relatively powerful cars, for what they are, but also fairly sedate, the kind of car your dad might have owned when he accumulated enough money to buy one. They are luxurious, spirited, cars.

The 996 TT is an animal. It's luxurious enough, but the luxury is beside the point. It's an f'ing monster.

Two different sorts of cars, with probably 2 distinct types of audiences.

That's right. The only problem I have is that the seat sometimes bumps into my backwards hat and messes up the angle.

If all things pans out after a PPI, then yes this is a very good deal for a car with that mileage! Good luck! I also agree, the 996TT is a beast!
