What's the consensus on the power steering reservoir whine?
Is a whine in the ps reservoir a safety concern or just an annoyance?
I think I know the reason for the whine because of the check valves inside the reservoir, but I wanted to make sure that this isn't a safety issue.
Thanks!

You may want to research it a bit more. I remember coming across some posts that indicated that it was a fire hazard. Pentosin is really flammable. The link below is not the same issue, but I believe the whine is due to a failing checkvalve, which could affect a lot of things in the pentosin circuit..... Proceed with care.

I had the same issue. It started with a whine and I ignored it thinking it is an annoyance. That winter, pentosin started leaking from one of the top hoses of the power steering reservoir. Not saying the whine caused the leak, but knowing that the fluid is highly flammable, I replaced the reservoir and the hose.
It is under pressure and I don't want to take any chances especially it sitting on the top of the engine.

There's a reason it's called a check valve. If there's any harmonics eminating from the valve you can be sure it's not functioning the way it's designed. (Fluid flowing in one direction)

is that what it is? i know its a "valve" that resonates, and i read tsb 4897 years ago when my first tt exhibited that tea kettle whistle, and i r&r'd the ps res, under warranty.. but found it strange the valve itself, was not a replaceable part.
