Default 04 996tt failed NY inspecton twice OBD not ready

I went through painful drive cycle twice and my car is not ready for inspection.
My guess is that the battery died when it was shipped few months back. Or the ECU is chipped ? The car came with AP muffler and OBX headers. I got OEM muffler and headers. Should I put everything stock? How can I tell that it may be chipped?

I had the same prob with my 996TT. You need to flash the computer back to stock. You have a ECU flash that will keep the readiness sensors from becoming complete. I am in NY too.

i suppose it's possible that you have a tune with maybe the pre cat 02 sensor coded "out" so the ecu isn't allowing that monitor to set. if that is true then you probably WILL have to revert back to a stock tune ( if you cannot remap the one you've got ). i just went thru all this painfully and mine was the catalyst that refused to set for 600 miles of driving. but having done the drive cycle effortlessly in the past, i believe my difficulties we rooted in the fact that i was never able to follow the drive cycle properly and maintain the proper speeds and duration. but i have a 1.2 tune and didnt have to revert to stock or swap back my oem exhaust.

if you regularly see 1.0 ( above ) from the boost gauge then your car is probably chipped/tuned. so yeah, if it's easy enough to do, then revert to stock and try it all again. they should all set and if they don't? it's probably 02 sensor related.

Can I just buy stock ECU and swap it for inspection? I like the way it runs. This is my first Porsche and I love the power. Only if I can get it inspected.
Anybody has stock ECU for sale?

This is what worked for me after screwing around for months and months. Car has a tune and non-stock exhaust.

Let the car sit over night, start it up in the morning and let it idle for 20 minutes. Do not drive the car after start up.

Drive around during the week and it should be good.

Check the codes, you may have a faulty O2 sensor.

Good luck.

Just went for a ride and saw 1.1 bar couple of times and the clutch starts to slip.
I put only 500 miles on this 20k miles car. You would think that PPI would pick little thinks like tune or slipping clutch. The clutch could be slipping because of the tune?

Thank you for all inputs.

If you are driving the car in a manner that has it making 1.1 bar boost (obviously with the help of a "tune") the readiness monitors won't reach complete even if they could as that kind of driving is counter to the type of driving needed to get the readiness monitors set to complete.

I did twice this drive cycle first:

Start engine, let idle for approx. 2 min, 10 secs.

Accelerate to 20-30 MPH, Maintain steady speed for approx 3 min, 15 secs.

Accelerate to 40-60 MPH, Maintain steady speed for approx 15 mins.

Decelerate and come to a stop. Then:

Idle in Neutral for 5 mins. (manual trans.)

Idle in Drive for 5 mins. (Tiptronic trans.)

During the drive cycle, do not exceed 3,000 rpm or 60 mph.

I heard that it worked for some people. If my tune eliminated O2 sensor, that I will newer pass the inspection. I understand that driving at 1.1 bar will not make me pass inspection faster. I just wanted to know if the car is tuned.

Tune alone may not effect readiness. Some early tunes locked the ecu and have turned off some perameters so you may not be able to re flash back to stock. If this is the case you will need to have an ecu specialist unlock and re flash back to stock. Once the stock program is place then and only then will readiness be allowed to be reset.

Once stock program is back you can then use the Cobb to use to switch between stock and multiple diff custom tunes.

^ This.

Let me know if I can help. With a Cobb AP you can flash to pure stock, then switch to any tune you like on your own. I have helped a few guys with this and in the end they all agreed they had a better tune as well as more options. It's a great value!
