Turbo Road Trip car?
I have an excuse to go for a 1,000 mile drive to visit a relative and am considering taking the turbo.
Would be interesting to hear from anyone who's taken longer road trips and what your thoughts are?

I live in Reno, I've driven to LA and surrounding area (~1k+) as well as up to Vancouver and all around SW BC area (2k+). If you enjoy driving your car I don't see why not!

agree, as a nice change of pace from my usual frenetic short blasts.
i recently drove to the central coast and even though my car rides a bit harsher than a stock one, i was surprised at how comfortable a ride it was ( 400 mi ). until the return trip when i became mired in hi-way 1 late PM stop and go. then i was longing for my semi auto car.
all in all, a great cruiser. better still if "stock"! just be prepared for people egging you on. esp pickup trucks

Haven't taken mine on any road trips yet. Handling wise (h&r street coilovers) im not worried as car feels amazing cruising on highway. Im more scared of the high flow exhaust sound getting to me. Dont get me wrong I absolutely love the sound on my short outings, just wondering how I'll feel after 3+ hours straight!! Guess I will find out hopefully on my drive to Daytona for Rolex24 in Jan

I just took mine on a 300 mile day trip. No fatigue, no issues and 21mpg to boot. As long as your SO can pack light, this is a true GT (Grand Touring) car.
Good Luck!

My only thoughts are if you have the excuse and the car why are you sitting at your computer?
Hit the road!

I drove my 03 from Orange County to San Francisco. Next day turned around, headed south and drove at Laguna Seca. Drove home following day. 23 mpg on highway with cruise control, ac and good music. Could not have been more comfortable. 4.7 mpg on track, great sounds, could not have been more fun. I say use it for what it was designed for! (I did have a chase vehicle carrying tools, jacks, different wheels, tires, brakes and driver's seat for the track day)

Picked mine up in Alabama and drove it straight back 1100 miles that day/night without stopping other than food and gas. The car was straight piped at the time none the less! It was great! Enjoy the trip.

I have driven my stock '02 TT from Chicago to Watkins Glen, did a two day DE and then drove it back. I was solo on this trip. Drove it from Chicago to Detroit to Nashville to Road Atlanta to New Orleans to Memphis and back to Chicago, this time with the wife. And recently drove it Chicago to South Florida and back.
Yep, I think it's a great road trip car.

Taken mine a couple times to Ocean City on my yearly fall getaway which ends up being a 900 mile round trip. No issues driving it further, space can be at a premium in the car however with the roll bar/GT3 seats if packing a good bit of stuff.

Drove mine with my wife from Omaha to Cleveland and back to attend my brother's wedding a few years back. Trip was 840 mi one way and 13 hrs of driving. Car was very comfortable (wife never complained) and returned almost 27 mpg. Last year drove from Omaha to Syracuse, NY and back for work. Trip out was same 840 mi leg on day one to Cleveland (stay with mom overnight) then the 330 mi trip from Cleveland to Syracuse on day two. Still returning almost 27 mpg. Plan on road tripping the 996TT out to Syracuse again this August.
I wouldn't hesitate to road trip in the 996TT.

We have done a couple long trips in our stock 2004 X50 Cab. It was exactly what the car was made for. It's a Buick (fast one) on the highway and a sports car in the twistys.
Removed the rear seat cushions for more luggage room and a small cooler.

I drive this thing from NY > CT and back, about 3,000 miles in just over a week. Also just came back from Key West with it. It's loud, but I love it. (Eb werks exhaust w/ no mufflers)

Just do it Mark! It really is an amazing car that can eat up the highway miles and do heavy track work as well. I recently did a road trip to Central Florida with the wife and the baby (no complaints from either of them). Surprising amount of room in the car when you use duffel bags instead of hard luggage. Hell, I was even more surprised that the pack-n-play crib fit in the frunk! Though I've got a young family I'm still very much enjoying the ability to spend time with my Turbo too...

OK OK, I'm convinced!
Thanks guys for all the nice reply's
One thing I hadn't seen commented about is protection from inaccurate radar/laser readings.
What are you guys that road trip using?
My V1 is all I've used recently but I typically like to to use my eyes/head and pick my spots/go to the track.
