+1, absolutely .
Even the newest cars still want to be run hard to be cleaned out

Also on the aircooled cars - the pre 964 oil pump worked much better above 2500 rpms and the cooling fan also worked better above that speed.

+1^

The concern of high boost at low rpm from an overly aggressive tune may be what he was referring to, however cruising around at 2500 isn't going to smoke your engine. Just drop a gear when you stomp it.

GT-2 gearing helps too, 1st is good for sound quality around city, and 2nd is cocked and locked anytime you're in the mood.

Hmmm I only use 1st to get to 2nd...I never drive around in 1st...I also prefer to drive at higher revs.

Yes but this applies to all cars basically, it's not our cars only. I never have a problem with mine when I cruise on a flat road at 2k rpm in 6th gear, smooth as butter, even during load. Sure, some lag but I never try to accelerate fast in high gears anyway. If I need to accelerate quickly or have a steep hill I downshift but this is something I do with all cars.

When just daily driving I keep mine no lower than 2k. Usually 60 minimum gets 6th

The owners manual often indicates minimum and maximum RPMs. Mine says to keep it above 1,500 (99C2). I rarely drive below 2,000 though. I would not put the hammer down below 1,500, even if completely warmed up and I wouldn't cruise along all day at 1,500. You're not going to do any real damage if you do, but you're not doing the engine any favors either.

I actually try try to keep mine between 2000-3000 and regularly excerise it above 5000 on occasion.

At what rpm do you guys drive when the car is cold?

I never pass 2k until I get some heat in there.

I agree stock 1st is pretty useless.

Exactly why I swapped to GT-2 main 1,2,3 when I had transmission rebuilt. This is one of the best mods, totally transforms car. Even better when paired with turbos that provide a much wider power band, thanks Kevin!

I let the Water temp get to 150+ before driving, then keep it under 3k for at least 10 min.

Great question. Maybe the guys who opine that "these cars were meant to be driven" can answer.

I'm thinking the 996 Turbo is never "happy" or "sad".

Depends on how cold and what oil is used. If it's very cold, (0-31F+), 2k is fine. But if it's just regular cold (32+), then 3k is fine.

On cold start I don't drive until the RPM drops from the initial start RPM (air pump shut off). Once driving I keep the RPM below 3000, and stay away from aggressive throttle applications, until the oil pressure is less than 2.0 at idle RPM.

they are harmonic considerations still with GT1 engine but you don't need to be revving the crap out of it in low torque situations either
Makes sense. Another possible explanation could come from the NA cars with the M96 engine. Conventional wisdom says to keep the revs up for IMS bearing health. Someone may have gotten confused and given the OP that advice not realizing the difference.

It all depends what gear you are in. To say not to put the hammer down below 3,000 has no validity.
